Since I know I'm chronically low in dopamine and that L tyrosine benefits me in other ways, I decided to try trickle dosing. I got some L Tyrosine powder from Bulk Supplements. Since I measure my water anyway (I live in the desert and it's pretty easy to get dehydrated here, so my best bet is to make sure I drink enough by measuring it out) I put this powder in my water. It dissolves easily.
So I put 1/4 teaspoon of this powder (I don't know how much that is because I discarded the package and just have it in a jar that I labeled) in my quart of water -- one quart in the morning and the 2nd quart starting at 2:30.
It has had a definite beneficial effect. I have had almost zero "kicking the ceiling all night" since then. I am also avoiding, still, those things that I know are heavy triggers, like corn and peanuts.
Just in case anyone else wants to try it. My RLS can be so bad that half my body jumps off the bed every 30 seconds (and I don't care if you don't want to call it RLS; as far as I'm concerned it's all the same thing and you can call it what you want.)

From Wikipedia: "In dopaminergic cells in the brain, tyrosine is converted to L-DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase (TH). TH is the rate-limiting enzyme involved in the synthesis of the neurotransmitter dopamine."
It was immediate. Just started. I did drop down to 1/8 teaspoon because I was sleepy during the day. I have a little bit of leg jerking but it isn't interfering very much with sleep. Please note that I also stayed off of two really bad triggers, corn an peanuts. I think you still have to avoid triggers. Those who want to keep on ingesting things that trigger them are unlikely to get the same results. My diet is VERY restricted -- no nightshades, no dairy, no grains, no legumes.
I do ok with millet, which is a grain. I started eating that when I went low histamine. It is a staple in many parts of the world, instead of wheat or corn.
