I've not seen adverse reports linked to RLS on any of these, but they all have various possible side effects.
Alendronic acid (Fosamax) and zoledronic acid (Zometa) are both bisphosphonates which have many common possible side effects including joint pain and dizziness (amongst many other possibilities). Denosumab (Prolia, Xgeva) has fairly common reports of pain in the arms or legs, and less common reports of cramps and itching (amongst other possibilities).
If you want to research all the possible other non-RLS side effects, as you're in the UK you can see more here:
(But if we worry too much about all the listed *possible* side effects, we'd never take any medications!)
I agree with Chris.
Been on alendronic acid for 5 years ..twice...finish next week as 10 years max. Hasn't affected my RLS, in my opinion.
I found alendronic acid affected my entire system and had to stop.Amazingly having zolondronic IV for 3 years (once yearly) completely eliminated my osteoporosis.
For that reason I would highly recommend it.
It did not make my RLS any better but it did not make it any worse.
Hi, I am on Alendronic Acid for osteoporosis and have suffered for years from RLS, although I take Gentle Iron (from Holland and Barrett) and Magnesium to help relieve symptons. Alendronic acid has not exacerbated my RLS at all thank goodness. Good luck.
Thank you to all who have replied, I feel it is pretty safe to start this medication. It has put my mind at rest
