Non-Opioid Pain Relief?

US Cable News Network (CNN) today published this article: "Experimental pain drug may offer alternative to opioids for acute pain, study suggests" today which may offer a ray of hope to those of us who are using low-dose opioid therapy, but experience difficulties in either accessing the prescription or getting it filled at the pharmacy.

My medical knowledge is limited, but I'm hoping to solicit comments from members whose competence in this regard exceeds mine.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. (But one thing I'm definitely never signing up for is any pain relief trials!)

Thanks for info.

We tend to suffer from chronic pain - which means "all the time"

Acute pain would be post operative, which is where strong opioids should be used and also at end of life.

RLS sufferers are caught in between - needing a very low dose, for constant low grade "pain".

This treatment has been shown to be extremely effective for the receptive cohort "us".

However, we are getting caught up in the public and medical hysteria surrounding opioid misuse, misprescription, overdosing and general opioid abuse.

Thanks again!💚

Interesting. I wonder if anyone will try it out and report back?

Will it work for RLS though as though some have pain, some don't and the need to move probably can't be treated by just a drug for pain?

Great question, although, unlike my friend ChrisColumbus, I might be talked into participating in a drug trial on the chance that it might obviate the continual hassles of acquiring low-dose opioids, as Madlegs suggests.

I should clarify. If I (still) suffered regularly with RLS symptoms and needed treatment I might like you volunteer for a trial: what I definitely would NOT sign up for is a post-op acute pain relief trial! 🫣
