Recent exacerbation of PLMD

Hi everyone. I’ve been on Pregabalin for 10 months after coming off Pramipexole. I’m taking 350mg around 8:30pm but have given up trying to go to bed before 11:30-midnight. Whilst RLS is well controlled, the PLMD isn’t. Most recently I am now getting PLMD as soon as or shortly after I get into bed. Sleep deprivation follows until 3 or 4 am every night. Fatigue is playing merry hell with my ability to work. It seems every time I settle into a routine with my RLS/PLMD something changes and I’m back to ‘sh1t city.’ Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Check your other medication to see if they have an impact on RLS. I checked mine and 4 out of 6 had RLS reported in their medical studies. I hope this help.

Thank you. I’m seeing my GP this week. She was reluctant to change 3 meds for ‘safe’ alternatives but I plan to ask again.

Hi, I have just re read your initial post. I was prescribed Pregabalin 150mg 1 month ago. This seems to be working well. I question your dosage of 350mg maybe too high. Perhaps ask Sue Johnson on here, she is the mind of all knowledge, there are others that can help as well. Good luck.

I titrated up to 350 as my RLS was not controlled below that. However, if I can get some less RLS exacerbating medication generally, the Pregabalin dose might be reducible?

Here is a fairly recent study on PLMD - and they pretty much assign it to RLS and the chief culprit - iron deficiency in the brain. Maybe get your blood iron tested, especially ferritin and then try some iron supplements (usually ferrous bisglycinate chelate).
