It is usually advised to start off with 200 mg to see if you have side effects. Don't take more than 350 mg. If you have stomach problems with it, take it with a small amount of food.

Thanks for the advice Sue.

I’m going to give the Magnesium a try first.

Hi Sue, I started to take a magnesium complex supplement (with added zinc and vitamin D3,) with a small amount of food recently, but have had to stop as it upset me . I felt very sick, and had bowel problems. I feel that I do need to take some form of magnesium. Do you think the bulking agent included in the ingredients is a problem, or too many different forms of magnesium. The ingredients are:Mag glycinate, Mag malate, Mag Stearate., Bulking agent, Vegetable capsule shell , Zinc ascorbate, Vitamin D3.

What do recommend?

How much magnesium did it contain? I would try sticking with just magnesium glycinate as it has the fewest side effects and look for a chelated version without bulking agents. Take a very small dose around 200 mg with a full glass of water and some food.

Thank you so much Sue, your help is invaluable, as usual.

I'll ditch the magnesium complex, which was BTW 205mg., and obtain the magnesium glycinate.

Sorry Sue, I think I 'piggy backed' onto someone else's question.

On the pregabalin, you might want to try gabapentin. Although they are basically the same drug except you need to divide the doses, and the side effects are basically the same, some people find that the side effects that bother them on one don't bother them on the other. The usual starting dose is 300 mg. If you need more than 600 mg take the extra 4 hours before bedtime as it is not as well absorbed above 600 mg. If you need more than 1200 mg, take the extra 6 hours before bedtime. Don't take your magnesium within 3 hours of the gabapentin as it reduces the absorption of the gabapentin. If you take calcium don't take it within 2 hours.
