I haven't used malate either, but any of the - ates are fine.

Citrate is probably the best value, but if you are already using the malate form ,then that's ok.

Good luck.

How much magnesium should I be taking?

I take 100mg in the evening, but the bottle recommends 200.

It's a question of trying out different doses for you personally. Too much and you'll be scuttering all night.

Think of the effect of too much Milk of Magnesia 😝

Be aware that magnesium interacts with some 200 medications, by absorbing the active ingredient, so best to keep 2 hours between the magnesium and medicine.

All the best.

Thank you, I've been taking 250mg at lunch with no other meds so I'm good.

Magnesium malate was promoted by a Californian supplement company for RLS, but they switched to magnesium glycinate because of - they said - a worldwide shortage of malate during Covid. They did not provide any evidence for their original claims for Mg malate, but as Madlegs1 writes all of the Mg -ates are reportedly well absorbed and may help.

I use Mg citrate, although this can have a laxative effect if taken to excess; Mg glycinate is widely recommended because it can aid sleep and reportedly doesn't have a laxative effect.

Would be good to know if Mg malate does help you!

Thank you for that Chris I just checked and I am using glycinate right now Also found that all of them helped quickly. Will post if I try the Malate in the future T

I use the malate and there are no side effects. It is supposed to be the best form for fibromyalgia for joints. Doesn’t really help my restless legs but does greatly help my migraines. I use a magnesium spray from Holland and Barrett when my arms and legs get bad and it usually works a treat within 15 minutes. Doesn’t help to prevent it though only once it’s started.
