I have been using Magnesium spray On my legs I n conjunction with other oral meds for RLS . After using for a month or so, I have developed an itchy , burning rash on both my legs , behind my knees and on my thighs. This has persisted now for almost a week . I am afraid to take antihistamines to get relief as it will likely activate my RLS . Has anyone had experience with a rash and if there is an oral medication that would help with the rash without driving my RLS out of control. Presently I’m using the topical Calamine etc with limited short term relief.

Use of Magnesium spray for RLS
Claritin /Clarytin and Allegra antihistamines do not worsen RLS
Thanks for your quick response Pippins2. I was so scared to take any of the antihistamine type drugs for fear of a RLS upset , and I just couldn’t stand that !
Hi, I too suffer with restless leg syndrome and it is accompanied by the dreadful itchyness. My legs were very dry too and each time I took off my trousers flakes of skin would drop on the floor. AWFUL, Sleep, or lack of it is obviously a problem for all us sufferers. I tend to listen to the radio to help take my mind off my body sensations.
Anyway, I am seeing a neurologist for the first time in the new year. In the meantime my doctor prescribed the lotion... Dermol500. I have found it has helped enormously as it is also bacterial. You can use it as a washing agent as well as a soothing lotion. I have tried others similar in the past but this one genuinly helps.
I have only recently experienced these dreadful restless leg symptoms but am shocked to read about so many of you have had it for years. It is a possibility my neuropathy could be caused my the side effects of a long term medication I have been on. I tried the magnesium spray about a month ago with no real results. My doctor wasnt impressed with it and said the actual massaging of the oil was probsbly the best thing about it rather than the oil itself. Anyway, good luck with your quest. Would you let me know if you find anything useful. Regards. Chrys
Dear Muftah. I have found that magnesium oil is very drying to my skin and can cause it to itch. I would use it from time to time but not on a regular basis because of this.
It doesn’t work for me pre RSL but if I use it once the RSL starts then it definitely works. Takes about 20 minutes to work. You can either spray it on an leave it as I do. Spray it on and wash it off after half an hour or add it to your moisturizer. All recommended ways to apply it. They say that if your skin tingles when you put it on it means your short of magnesium.
I use magnesium cream (from Posh) and then spray a little bit of the oil in the cream and then there is no itching. Works for me
Thanks folks for your responses. I have stopped the Mag . Spray as I have developed severe rash on both legs and that has created another problem for my nighttime sleep .
I’ve tried this several times but found that the itching it produced was worse and more lasting than the RLS!!
