SOAP

Hello all. After reading so much about the controversial idea of putting a piece of soap in the bed to help RLS, I decided to give it a go. So I bought a cake of pure, unrefined soap, which has been with me in my bed for the past week, and I can now report without the shadow of a doubt, that THIS DOES NOT WORK.

Did anybody else on here try it as an experiment?

Hi lorrinet

I believe there are at least ten threads on the subject of soap. Plug in soap in the search box if you wish to see them.

At least you haven't wasted your money. You can use the soap as...soap.

I did. Felt like a fool but gave it a go. Did not work for me either, why would it?

Don’t feel a fool, in despair I too tried it! And every other snake oil remedy out there!

The soap in bed experiement is the physical embodiment of the triumph of hope over experience but, I suppose, why wouldn't you try it?

I tried it like I try all reccommendations on here. No, it doesn’t work for me.

“This does not work”, then you should’ve added FOR ME. Everyone is different, and what works for one might not work for someone else. You can’t generalize when it comes to the human body.

I’m going to give soap a try.

Take care, there is a high risk of pregnancy.

That would be a modern-day miracle.

About as likely as curing RLS!

Like you, I tried it and it did not work.

Years ago my mother insisted I should put a potato in my bed to help with cramp, and that didn't work either. Still, anything is worth a try.

I'm not sure anything is worth a try. The potions & supplements on pharmacy shelves and Google RLS CURE searches are too numerous to list. Some things are obviously scams pandering to those of us with RLS and hoping we will try it at least once. Yes, I was suckered into trying one. But if you must, send $19.95 for the herbal mix I have developed (two packs if u act today).

I think anything that is obviously harmless and costs no more than the loan of a bar of soap must be worth atry. No the soap didn't work for me either but for some reason there have been people on RLS forums who claim it worked for them. Now any old expert can tell you that it is an illusion and they are delierious from lack of sleep or something. I can produce a couple of experts who will charge you about $350 for a 10 minute consultation to tell you the FODMAP diet is useless. The joke's on you because I sleep at night.

I should admit that I was up most of Sunday night with RLS symptoms. Out at lunch on Sunday and ordered a seafood rissotto. When it came it reeked of beautiful garlic and I could see onion in it so I thought that since I have been strict on my diet I could get away with one delicious meal. It was beautiful. I had forgotten how miserable RLS makes you feel when your arms and legs and chest are all dancing to different tunes. About 5 am it just suddenly went away and I slept until 10.

Yet a non sufferer with lots of letters after his name tells me RLS is not related to food!

Some things dont help everyone and I know I am LUCKY!!

Hi Lorrinet

I did try the soap in my bed, when you hurt so much you will try almost anything. It did not work for me. My Dr. tried me on so many different meds and nothing worked, the pain was getting worse. He sent me to a neurologist ...FINALLY.. and he ran some tests and put me on Oxycodone All I can say is it works it was a long road to finally have some relief.

Try 1 and 1/2 Magnesium tablets a 1/2 hr. before bed.

I've been taking Magnesium Malate twice daily for about six months. It doesn't do anything for my RLS but quite severe circulation problems in my legs and ankles are a lot better.
