My GP has just put me on Quinine. I have take Pramipexole for some years. I was wondering whether anyone else has been prescribed this and what were the results.

Quinine has been banned by the FDA for rls due to danger for heart attack.

Only for leg cramps. Not any use for rls.

Are you still on the Prami?

Why the need for further medicine?

Search " augmentation "

Pramipexole is holding rls in check but not fully so asked to try something else. Have only taken one but as it's banned have thought better of it. Felt quite unwell this morning after only taking one which was why I looked Quinine up.

I tried pramipexole and it was worse,so went back to ropinirole..does the quinine work, because tonic water contains quinine and I've been told to drink a glass a day.

I didn't really give it a chance as I was concerned about side effects and the experience of others seems to indicate that it doesn't work for rls. I have taken Pramipexole for some years prescribed by a GP who has since retired my current GP prescribed the quinine. I am reluctant to go back because I do not want to stop the Pramipexole without a back up as it does work to some extent and life would be unbearable without medication. The medical profession's knowledge (I am a retired nurse by the way) is sadly lacking about this condition.

Hi jiggle legs what part of the UK do you live in, if you do live in UK? . I am a retired nurse, and have got myself on the RLS site and also the Internet to find out all I could about RLS. Good luck shaft1952

Maureen, as far as I am aware quinine is for cramps not RLS. As you say, "the medical profession's knowledge is sadly lacking about this condition."

There is a section on rls-uk.org for the Professionals..... perhaps you should point your new doctor in the direction of the link: rls-uk.org/professional-res...

I think it was jigglylegs wrote that wasn't me. So to date I take 4 x 0.088 daily but leave them to later in the day evening time as my legs kick in after teatime. I know Quinine is only for leg cramps i was on it for many years for same. It was stopped when it was taken off but my GP gives me it again but i don't take it on s daily basis now jus if I feel my legs are going to cramp I'll take one as i know it would be a full blown cramp next day if I didn't. I was on 600mg daily now I only take 1 x 300mg whenever which isnt very often at all. The Pramiprozole does help but im also trying to reduce it but i ran out one weekend and what a period i put in i was nearly crying with my legs going and my body head arms and shoulders joining in too. I could never be without medication for it i couldn't bear it no way.

No; quinine does not have a positive impact on rls - at least in the vast majority of cases

I understood quinine was for leg cramps, not RLS.
