First day: Today is my first day of quitting... - Quit Support
First day
Hi Annie, well done on deciding to stop, it is different for each person, you might find it hard or mybe not, wait and see and be prepared. Are you using any NRT or have you decided to quit without help? Sometime,s you expect it to be really hard because of what others say and then its embedded in your mind that its going to be hell and you expect it to be. If you want to stop then thats in your favour, its up to you in the end if you do or dont. Come on here and chat with some of the others who are still finding it really hard to quit, they can give you some tips. I can,t as I found it very easy, also you will get help to any questions you ask from our advisor EmJay, send her a message if you want help quick. Good luck Annie
Hi thanks for ur reply, I am using patches am finding it a lot easier than I thought everyone smokes around me an av no give in. My cravings tend to come in waves and I've just been sitting them out so still feeling optimistic, anyway thanks for advice. Annie
See the way we think ( I am finding it a lot easier than I thought ) before you even tried you thought it would be hard. A lot of it is in the mind Annie, others put thoughts into our heads and we use them. Hope you find it as easy as I did.
Hi Annie
Firstly congratulations and well done for making the decision to stop smoking, As Mad said, it is different for each person. I promise you this, it gets easier as time goes on, any cravings you have don't have the same impact. You will find a lot of help and support on this site and I couldn't have given up without it.
EmJay and Jarvo are full of great advice, they are the professionals on here
There are numerous things you can do to get through the cravings and to attempt to avoid them altogether. When I first quit and I was in work I used to go for a walk round the building for 5 minutes and the craving would pass. There are breathing exercised if you do a search on here you will find them. The main thing is keeping occupied whenever you can. Sue on here suggested crosswords which I do at lunchtime in work. I also at some sugar free sweets. You need to recognise the time you usually get cravings, mine were worst in the afternoon and have a plan of action to get through it. The cravings usually only last a couple of minutes and they pass. The main thing is to keep thinking about the reasons why you have quit and keep positive.
Please come on here and have a good old moan to us if you are feeling a bit down or the cravings are getting to you, there is loads of help, support and we do usually have a good laugh.
Good luck, you have taken the first step and you can do this.
Kaz xx

WELL DONE ANNIE !! :)) i'm not there yet but its on its way . I think the first few days tend to be the worst..but hey your one day in and thats TERRIFIC .I shall be following your journey xx
Wow am amazed at the support you have all given!!! I have made a choice not to tell everyone that I am quitting, only two people, as I feel they would not take me seriously enough, therefore putting doubts in my own mind!
I'm going to bed in a minute knowing I've had my first smoke free day in 17 years!!! Thank you all for the support and advice it is appreciated very much xxx
Dont let them invade your mind with there thoughts, you have enough of your own to drive you insane, ha ha.
Temptation is far greater today xx
Hi Annie
There will be times when the cravings get to you, it's how you look at them, if you give in you'll be back to where you started, stay strong and they will pass, try and think of other things, find something to shout them away, i used to beat up a pillow and scream at it, sounds daft but it worked, maybe go a walk, some of our members did that, this will get easie just shout them away, read some of the blogs, if you've not already done this, they will also help you
stay strong Annie you can do this
Hi Annie,
I'm glad i could help a little, I'm sure the walk will help you, and your son will enjoy the chocolate cake
Take care and stay strong
