Hi Pete, I`ve heard good and bad reports about champix. perhaps the doc would advise

just found this other post from a while ago which doesnt sound bad. gave up smoking with Tabex after 25yrs of smoking and i think they are brilliant and i would highly rcommend these tablets of which soilders used in the 1st world war and our NHS has just decided to look in to this remedy now and these are a natural remedy with no side affects and its only a 28 day course, not like the weired crap on the NHS now that give you sleep depravation etc and are a 3 mth course

see what you think. :)

Hi Pete, just had orders to reply to you! :D :D As you know I don't have any experience of any nrt. Did check tags for champix though which didn't tell much except that you have to get it on prescription. Hey, that's not the stuff that gives you hiccups is it? Have you read that book that everyone was going on about when we first gave up? Maybe that might help.

You WILL get there in the end you know cos deep down I think you want to and apart from that I think you're now addicted to this site - probably like the rest of us!! :D :D

Hey Pete, I was actually going to suggest to you that you might try using Champix. Although it may not be for everybody, those who use it properly have very good outcomes.

Basically, you start using Champix whilst you are still smoking and you set a quit date between 7-10 days in. The sooner you stop smoking, the better it usually works for you.

It is by prescription only and you may have to see a stop smoking advisor throughout. If you PM me the area you live, I can look into this for you and find out more about your local stop smoking service and how they work or if you can just see your GP.

Champix may be the way forward for you as I think it will suit you. The only thing that you would need to think about is taking the pills at certain times and fitting this in with your shift pattern.

I'm just out and about at the moment but will chat to you more later about it if you like.

:D

I quit using champix 6 months ago. I only used them for 6 weeks rather than the 12 advised. I did this because they did not make me feel great. I felt sick after taking the morning one and had vivid nightmares.

After 5 weeks the nurse at my smoking clinic gave me a prescription for the 0.5mg tablets which you start on in your first week to stop me feeling unwell and after taking them for a week I decided after 6 weeks I could do it with my own willpower.

I think they are great to get you through those first few weeks as you really dont feel like smoking plus you get to prepare as the first week you can smoke and then you select a day to stop in the 2nd week.

If you are lucky and do not suffer any side effects I really do recommend them as nothing before this worked for me and 6months later I don't have any interest in smoking and am fully confident I will never smoke again.

Good luck !!

Good Morning Kal69, welcome to our on-line stop smoking community. A place where you'll be able to meet others who are going through the same experience as yourself.

In terms of feeling a bit sick, it's always advisable to to have something to eat beforehand. This usually helps.

It's normal for you to feel nervous, however if you start looking forward to the smokefree lifestyle that you are about to take, then you can turn this nervousness to excitement :-)

Stopping smoking is a journey that leads to so much positiveness.

Nobody said it would be easy, but given time - everyone says that it is worth it :-)

I've had a browse through some of the blogs, and have to say,the positivity is catching. My nerves are being replaced with an "I can do it!" feeling which is great.Hopefully, I will be able to share my experience, to help give a smoker the boost they might be needing, when I have battled my own demons.. Shield at the ready ! :D

Hi Pete,:)

Okay, so I have now been taking the champix for 7 days, tomorrow being day 8 on the Champix.I normally smoke around 20 a day, and have to say enjoy smoking.Over the last 2 days I have smoked less, and thought about smoking less.A lot of the cigarettes I normally smoke are "routine".I would usually on my 30 minute car drive to work smoke 3-5, depending on my mood, today I smoked 2 but honestly didn't really need/want one, but had the logic, that I wouldn't be able to again. I don't smoke at work.Again, my journey home at lunchtime, I usually smoke 2-3, but only had 1 today, as I had forgotten.I know this looks silly written down, but maybe its logical to another smoker. After lunhc I had 1 instead of 2, and then no more until 5pm, as I was pottering doing housework, and again forgot.Normally whilst doing housework I would smoke quite a lot.At this time 11pm,I have 2 left in my packet, so will smoke them.

Tomorrow will indeed be tricky, as I have a very busy homelife(4 kids 5 dogs 2 horses and 2 cats) and 3 teenage children with plenty of attitude.

Usually after school is my wobble point, but I am determined :/ ,and have a busy day planned including lunch out as a treat.

The medical bit about Champix is they block the receptors in the brain that crave cigarettes, they apparently can NOT be used in conjunction with nictine replacements products my help to quit nurse advises me.

The only side effect I have noticed is nasea, which if I ate breakfast didn't occur.

Hope thats helped

Kal x :)
