Failed at the first hurdle

Hello All,

I hope everyone is well!

It's my first post having registered yesterday. So, I smoked my 'last' cigarette yesterday evening with the hope that I would be on the road to quitting. Not so...purchased some cigarettes this morning on the way to work and have smoked a couple. I don't even like the taste! Really wanted to start a healthy lifestyle but I'm wondering if, after 20+ years, the damage has been done?! I hate to be negative but I'm so disappointed in myself!

Apologies for going on....

Hi StickPrit you can do this 👍 I was smoking for a number of years and gave up for 14. It was only when my hubby died nearly 6 years ago that I started smoking again - biggest mistake of my life 😤. I’ve been back trying to give up for about 18months now with very limited success. I’ve been signed off from my local quit support group because I suppose I wasn’t committed enough. So I’m back here again knowing I will get the support I need without being judged. I know how hard it is but please keep trying. I think the mantra is Not One Puff Ever (NOPE) Look forward to seeing you around 🙂

Hi CiggieStardust,

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband.

It's awful when you feel judged...hardly encourages you to succeed. WE can do it...we will do it!! If you need any support, I'm always happy to listen...I'm not great at offering tips just yet but perhaps one day!😉

Let's do this!! 🤞👊

Hi StickPrit, Well done for your decision to quit👏

Welcome to Quit Support.💙

It’s never easy to quit but it’s easier with a little support.💪

Before you actually begin your quit you need to decide how you are going to do this. Are you going to use NRT(nicotine replacement), a prescription drug from your GP or are you going Cold Turkey, without any aids. Once you've decided how, then you must decide when. Set a quit date not too far ahead. Here's a link which should help.

Please read the pinned posts,📌 there is lots of information there. You will find the posts to the right or at the bottom of your screen depending which device you are using. Just click “posts” then click “pinned posts”.

May I suggest you drink plenty of water💧💦 to flush out the toxins and keep yourself hydrated.

If you feel you need any more help please don’t hesitate to ask. There is always someone here.

Please let us know when you begin your quit so that we can assign you a winners badge and add your name to the wall of winners.

May I remind you not to post any personal information.

Good luck with your quit.🍀🚭xx

Hi StickPrit.

Welcome to Quit Support, our friendly community of like minded members who want to become smoke 🚭free.

May I suggest you read our Pinned Posts for help and info on your journey to become smoke🚭free, you will find them to the right of this page, or at the bottom of page, depending on which device you are using.

Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated and it also helps flush the toxins from your body.

Have fresh sliced fruit and healthy chewy bars in the refrigerator to use as an alternative to cigarettes, fancy a cigarette, have some fruit or chewy bar instead, or use sweets(candy) as an alternative..... dont worry about gaining weight, you can sort that when you are smoke🚭free.

Write out a list of your personal reasons for wanting to stop smoking, write in thick black felt tip pen, and pin it up somewhere indoors, where you will see it as a reminder that you have quit, you could do the same thing at work, and stick one on the dash if you drive a car!

You could change your routine, if possible, change your route to work, to avoid passing the shop.

Our community mantra is NOPE(Not One Puff Ever).

So set yourself a date in the near future, try reducing the cigarettes by that date and try again.

You will find many words of encouragement and support from members of this community, because they have all been where you are now!

If you fall off the wagon and have a cigarette, dont fret, pick yourself up and start again, we dont judge members in this community.

You think after 20 years smoking, the damage is done, that may well be, but you can get back to a healthy lifestyle to enjoy the rest of your life if you quit!

I smoked forty a day for over forty years, but am now smoke🚭free, and living a healthy and enjoyable life again at 76 years of age.

You can do this StickPrit, just believe in yourself and what you are doing.

😀🌞👏👏👏 NOPE! 🚭 👍

I think you are right. I have got a vape but I did want to go cold turkey. Maybe aiming too high? On the plus side, my exercise bike is ready and just waiting for me to jump on and peddle like my life depends on it! 😁

Hi StickPrit and welcome to Quit Support👋

Lots of good advice already so I’ll just say stay close, this community makes a big difference. There’s no such thing as failed, we call them trial runs. So keep trying and remember it’s never too late👍🏼

We look forward to supporting you on your journey🚭✅😘

Thank you. I love the idea of it being a 'trial run' so will use that terminology in future 😉

I have to say that there are so many supportive people on this fab forum and with some support, I'm hoping to be cig free! 🥰👊🤞
