Depression ☹️

Good morning everyone, so day 13 smoke free. The last few days my depression has been bad. Last night and today I feel awful, I feel lost and I’m currently fighting the urge to smoke.

Did anyone else find depression getting worse while stopping?

Good morning Louise, Depression is very common in the first few weeks of quitting. The trick is not to dwell on how you feel. Try start to think how well you are doing , walk out with your head high and say to yourself I dont smoke anymore I am a non smoker. Go out and reward yourself even if it is just a favourite cream cake or chocolate. You deserve it. If you look at the pinned posts there is a lot of information on there to helps you. here is just one of the articles on depression healthunlocked.com/quitsupp...

Please could you confirm your exact quit date as we have you as 20/09/19. 3 weeks quit. :) xxxx

Hi Louise and welcome to Quit Support

Well done, 2 weeks smoke free is brilliant👍

I think we often feel worse before we feel better. It’s a big adjustment as we hid behind the smoke and now that’s gone, we feel all these emotions.

I know you’ve had great advice already so I’ll just say hang in there for better times ahead.

Mindfulness and meditation can be a good tool to use. Also a walk in the fresh air or a swim can get those happy endorphins going.

We look forward to supporting you on your journey to a healthier future🚭✅☀️xx

Thank you Briarwood, that’s exactly what I have been doing “hiding behind the smoke” now I’m free and it’s difficult adjusting.

I think smoking was one of my ways of dealing with anxiety before and now it’s finding another way to deal with it.

I’ve didn’t smoke this morning and looking forward to 2 weeks tomorrow!

I just checked on my no smoking app to see how much I’ve saved and I was pleasantly surprised. That’s was a real boost too xx

Are you taking champix? I’m on day 24 smoke free and stopped taking champix on Monday. Not sure if it was to blame for the crushing sadness and “not give a shit attitude” about everything I was feeling so I decided to remove it from the equation.

Like you, I’m using an app to track my success, pretty nice to check it every day or so, so far I’ve not smoked 471 cigarettes and saved $367.90.

I’m not much further ahead than you so I dont have any big tips or insights for you, just cheer you on by saying hang in there. That’s what I keep telling myself. That and taking pride in things like hugging my kids knowing 100% that I don’t smell like smoke.

Thanks Dunny77,

We’re in together 💪 feeling much better today.

Think the good sleep I had last night is helping, been suffering with insomnia which is not helping towards my moods.

Wishing you the best of luck in your smoking journey too.

We’ve got this 🙌🚭

Hi Dunny,

My partner and I have both stopped taking champix a week in as it was having a massive effect upon our mood and sleep. Good decision to stop I say!!

I had taken it before without issues, and loved the dreams I had. This time around was different though, I wasn’t sleeping and was numb to everything.

Been almost a week off champix and I’m definitely doing better. It’s just me vs my cravings now

Hi Louise, well done for giving up and making it 13 days, your doing so well. I feel your pain. I just found out I’m pregnant, so I stopped immediately. It’s only been 2 days and I’m feeling the withdrawal and struggling to cope but I know there’s no turning back, especially being pregnant. I started reading Allen Carr’s Easy Way to stop smoking. I highly recommend it. This is a tough journey but will be so worth it once we realise it’s just a bad habit. Keep going you are strong :)
