Hi everyone, I am new to this site. I stopped smoking for six weeks at the start of the summer. I was so proud of myself, so proud in fact that I rewarded my efforts with a cigarette. A few weeks on and I really want to quit again. I smoked my last cigarette a few hours ago and have promised myself that this time it is for good.
I'd be grateful for any advice anyone has on staying positive over the next few weeks? I am so disappointed in myself that I started again, especially after quitting cold turkey for so long.
Any advice on dealing with the pangs of anger and irritability I am feeling would also be welcome? I don't mean to take out my cravings on those around me.

Well done on deciding to quit smoking. Its not easy, however it
Is achievable ,and we will help and support you all the way on your quit Journey.
Many of us think just one cigarette wont hurt, but it does. Make yourself a plan and write a note with the reasons you want to quit. Pop the note on a door or somewhere you pass everyday. This will remind you why you have quit.
We have a lot of information in the pinned posts and topics sections.
If you cant find what you require , just shout and we will be here , ready to support you.
We do remind new members NOT to give any personal details out i.e. email addresses,
Phone numbers, or personal pictures. (If in doubt leave it out).
If you let us know your exact quit date we can then assign you your progress badge,
Hi Samyooel first off don't be disappointed in yourself. We all have fallen off the wagon during a quit. This is the longest I haven't smoked since I was 16. This was my 5th attempt at quitting.
Your still here and still wanting to quit and give yourself a healthier life. If we keep trying at something we do not fail or be disappointed in ourselves.
Awesome the last time around you went cold Turkey. But don't be too hard onyourself if you need a little help. I used patches for a couple weeks. I also tried the gum.
And jillygirl is correct a list of the reasons why you want to quit can be very handy, mine is on my fridge next to a family picture of my husband and our two boys.
I wish you good luck on your continued journey to being smoke free
Hi Samyooel, Well done for your decision to quit👏 and of course for your 6 smoke free weeks (befrore your hiccup)
Welcome to Quit Support.💙
It’s never easy to quit but it’s easier with a little support.💪
As Witty41 mentions beat yourself up about your slight relapse. Quitting is made of learning curves. As you know why you slipped (you were rewarding yourself) you can avoid the situation next time.
Please read the pinned posts,📌 there is lots of information there. You will find the posts to the right or at the bottom of your screen depending which device you are using.
May I suggest you drink plenty of water💧💦 to flush out the toxins and keep yourself hydrated.
If you feel you need any more help please don’t hesitate to ask. There is always someone here.
Remember our community mantra: N.O.P.E. Not One Quit Ever.
Good morning Samyooel, don't give yourself a hard time for smoking again. It's quite normal! Stopping is an ongoing process, from my experience.
Staying positive, well I think about how much easier it is to breatheand how lovely breathing is! Also not stinking like an ashtray. Smell a smoker, they stink!
Unfortunately I think the anger thing often manifests with people closes too us. What everyone has to remember is that is a reaction from stopping, it is not personal. Eventually this anger subsides then discuss appears. For me, every evening for a couple of hours I lost my temper, any little thing triggered it around 6pm. But it doesn't last. Good luck from happybear.
Hi You know this sounds bad but boy it works for me 15 months completely free now... Any how here goes... If you are near a public hospital go drive past and you will see all sorts of people smoking and they usually look terrible outside in their white gowns legs missing crinkle cut skin bad hair etc etc etc I am telling you it makes you feel really sick to see and in particular that the road we are going down smoking... incidentally I also avoided family members that were toxic as hell.. But driving past the hospital makes me feel good for me but sorry for those who cant break the addiction good luck
Don’t beat yourself up over a slip. You’re human and nicotine is a powerful addiction and smoking is a hard habit to break. The main thing is you want to stop smoking and you will. I believe once a person wants to quit out of fear of illness or whatever the motivator is, they will find a way. I used nicotine lozenges Worked a treat. Give them a try if you want. You’ll do this. Thanks for a great post. You are probably helping a lot of people in the same position xxxxx
