Any tips for the first week smoke free?

I smoked my last cigarette 10 hours ago and am determined to give up for good this time. Have managed to beat the cravings so far, has any one any tips on how to manage them, or any other side affects that are coming my way?

You’ve made the best decision and you’re off to a great start🚭✅

Lots of lovely people here to help and there’s great tips for beating those cravings under pinned posts as well.

Keep busy and try to change your routine around to avoid some of the triggers. Also drink lots of water to flush out the toxins.

I recommend some exercise as this speeds up the healing process.

I had lots of fruit cut up and ready in the fridge for snacks🍎🍇🍊🍓🍍

I’m using the niquitin lozenges to help with the cravings and I find them fantastic.

I have noticed I am struggling to get to sleep on a night but other than that no other side effects.

Fingers...... the Pinned Posts are to the right of this page or at the bottom of the page, depending on which device you are using.

tiggs, to help you sleep, drink Decaf tea or coffee, it tastes the same as ordinary tea or coffee, just better for you!

It’s never easy to quit but it’s easier with a little support.💪

When we quit we have to learn to handle our cravings until they eventually disappear.

Remember the 4 D's. Delay. Deep breathing, Drink water,Do something,do anything go for a walk,do the washing up, clean out a cupboard,wash those windows.

Please read the pinned posts,📌 there is lots of information there. You will find the posts to the right or at the bottom of your screen depending which device you are using.

May I suggest you drink plenty of water💧💦 to flush out the toxins and keep yourself hydrated.

So for the record I have your quit date as Saturday 14th September. Please let us know if this is incorrect.

If you feel you need any more help please don’t hesitate to ask. There is always someone here.

Stop counting the hours, by doing so

you are bringing smoking to the forefront of your mind. Instead do something that occupies your mind and body, for example crosswords, jigsaw puzzles even knitting or woodwork if you can.

Change your routine, if you like to sit in the kitchen and have a cigarette with a coffee, change the room to the lounge and have tea instead.

Finally, find a NRT which is good for you.

Good luck Restless Fingers. I always found many years ago. If i had the urge for a cig. I used to pop chewing gum in my mouth. Found this helped me. KEEP STRONG BRIAN

Just think of all the people you will leave behind when you die and you will if you smoke again this is one of the only thing in life that is guaranteed trust me I know I have lost my mum and dad through smoking

Just forget cigarettes I did I had a bet with a work mate

We both gave up next smoker give £100.00 to charity he lasted 2weeks I have not smoked now for over 2years I have never felt better it’s a long journey on the road of life just be aware of koffin nails which let you down 🚘.

(My mate never did pay the charity).

Hi there. I got loads of stop smoking books from the library and read them all. I wrote 50 reasons to stop and put them on the fridge. I found changing from one activity to another hard, so I did it really quickly, jumped up after dinner to clear away, came in from a dog walk and switched the hoover on etc. It’s normal now, occasionally if I am rushing I remember that I would have needed to make time for a cigarette.i used to be late everywhere, and smelly.so pleased to be free.

Thank you all for the great tips and advice, and for a warm welcome. Haven’t given in today even though I’ve had lots of cravings. Am going to try out some of your tips to keep me going on my smoke free journey!
