Really having problems with insomnia 9 days In cold turkey

My chest feels do tight and an existing problem with slow transit constipation is worse than ever

Is this to be expected but just wondered at what stage your body starts normalising

I know some of you will very kindly suggest prunes , movucol etc but I have been down every avenue with this problem to no avail

I do think giving up smoking will help eventually as contrary to the belief it helps. You go Im the long run it dries out and slows down the bowel

Would appreciate advice from you guys

Thanks

Porgyfish ...

Congratulation for 9 days of Cold turkey ....

yes, for the first few days to weeks ( depending upon person to person) life looks like a fish out of water....

Symptoms can include anything possible in the world or beyond from feeling blue to crazy like Jim Carrey of Mask.

But dont worry, all these are temporary in nature, as of now body and mind are trying to adjust life without nicotine and such adjustments are like long operations where recovery period is tough and long.

would suggest drink plenty of water , for constipation use laxative ( make sure you dont get addicted to them) , distract yourself , call old friends , go for some new hobby .. read as much as possible on quitting ...

Just Make sure you don't smoke. Nicotine will attack you at body and mind level , be aware of mind games of Nictoine... Stick to NOPE !!!

all the best :)

Hi Porgyfish,Firstly super well done for your 9 smoke free days.

I'm afraid what you are experiencing are common withdrawal symptoms.

The tightness in your chest is probably anxiety,I suggest you try doing some of the breathing exercises that you will find in the pinned posts. If however the situation worsens I suggest you have a word with your doctor.

When we smoke the nicotine sometimes masks existing conditions,so when we first begin quitting we feel a little worse for wear.

For the record I will put your quit date as Monday 26th August. If this is incorrect please let us know.

Hang in there as things do get easier.

Well done for being smoke free for 9 days..

It takes time for your body to normalize. Years of smoking does that to our bodies unfortunately.. First few weeks are toughest. It takes a few months (3-9) for the body to start normalizing. If constipation becomes a major issue, I would strongly recommend seeing a doctor, as this should not last for months etc. All the best with your quit journey. U can do this..

Hi Porgy, sorry to hear you’re suffering with slow transit. Movicol is highly recommended but you have to take it every day and it can take a week before you feel the benefits. The other thing is water, and lots of it to rehydrate the system. Also exercise is great to get the system moving.

Well done 9 days cold turkey, your body will take a while to adjust now it’s working out how to operate without cigs.

I wish there was a magic timescale on this but everyone is different so hang in there💪🚭✅xx

Hey well done Porgyfish, cold turkey is hard core. But just keep going. It feels awful ,sleeplessness. I didn't know if I'd been to sleep or not, surreal dreamlike states of mind. It gets better but it takes time. This is a real battle against a highly addictive substance, you are doing really well . Big smiles happybear
