Newbie wanting to quit... where do I start....

Hey everyone. Newbie here!!

I've been smoking for 4 years now, however in the last 2 years it has gotten out of control.... I used to just socially smoke when I was out and never bothered about having a smoke while at home or doing day-to-day tasks, but in the last 2 years I have been smoking all day every day. I don't smoke much - around 8-12 cigarettes a day (Ive been keeping track recently).

However, I'm one of these people who really worries about the side effects of stopping smoking, obviously, the health side is incredibly important to me, but Im so deathly afraid of becoming ill, sick or anything else, and that is what's holding me back from quitting.

Can anyone give me some reassurance? Also any tips that have helped / are helping you to quit would be wonderful. I do have an e-cig at the minute that I can use to help my cravings :)

Thank you so much!

Hi saffehhh

Welcome to the site👋

I know how hard it can be to make that final decision having tried to quit many times before. This time I'm vaping which seems to be good for me 😀

My best advice is have a look at the pinned posts on this site. There is a whole bundle of really helpful tips and advice to help you make your decision.

In the end, choose whatever feels right for you.

Keep us up to date with your decision. If you have any other queries, just shout out 👍

Good luck 😉

Ah thank you so much! I'll give them all a read. I'm glad I've found this site - I've been searching and searching to try and find like-minded people in similar situations. I'll definitely keep my progress updated - Its 4:30 and I've only had one cigarette today.... feeling quite proud!!

If you think it's time to quit then it's time to quit. Fears to rest once and for all. Rest assured, the unpleasant feelings and withdrawal sickness are normal and they’re a positive sign. They indicate that your body and mind are adapting to the change, the return to natural.

At the end it's all worth it. :)

All the best for your quitting journey. You can do it. ✌👍

I'd say if you're worried about side effects of giving up, google effects of smoking and I guarantee that will give you the prompt... I've never felt fear like I have the last few months and I went from happily chuffing away on nearly 25 a day to thinking 'why was I as stupid enough to smoke for that long?' within a couple of weeks. There might be some short term bad effects but nothing compared to the positive effects of giving up, good luck x
