I quit smoking 9 days ago. I've been short of breath for the past week and it feel like I have a pressure in my chest and throat. Hubby says it's anxiety as he's a "quitter". I saw a similar post regarding this issue.

I feel the same at the moment always grasping for breath. When does this feeling become better? I slowly waned myself from cigs from a pack a day to 10 sticks after a week, then 3 sticks. Now i cut everything off and on my 3rd day being smoke free.

It's a horrible feeling! I'm sorry you're going through it too! I quit before years ago and I do remember this feeling. Just can't remember when it stopped. Good luck to you! Thank you for your reply!!!

I hope this feeling gradually gets better. It's so hard to handle.

It does get better I do remember that. I guess we'll take one day, hour or minute at a time. My worse is the short of breath and not knowing what to do without having to take ciggy breaks. Driving was my worse cig smoking time, but it's getting better. It's habits that are difficult to change.

I agree it does gets better ..Just find at least 5 things to do instead of smoking ..and when smoking crosses your mind think of something else ..just distract your mind ..nicotine replacement helps first weeks urges ..best of luck

Hello bethseeler, Welcome to quit support. Your hubby is probably right it seems many quitters experience the same . Sometimes being short of breath can be whilst your lungs are clearing themselves of all the 500+ chemicals from smoking. It can cause mucous which can in turn make it hard to breathe. Many suffer with coughing which is due to the same cause.

You should find it clears up soon, otherwise get checked out at the doctors who may help you by prescribing an inhaler to help open your airways.

Have a good read at our pinned posts for more information.

I will add your name to our wall of winners and assign you your badge so you can watch your progress grow. I apologise for not replying sooner, however Mondays are my busy days. Well done on reaching 9 days thats fantastic. :) xx
