I have been smoking for 24 years. Tried & failed quitting almost every single day. It seems to be an impossible mission for me. Once again, I have chosen a day to quit.. The closer I get to that day, the more terrifying this idea of quitting becomes.. And the anxiety it even makes me smoke more than usual.
I'm new here, so hello everyone! While waiting for the big day, I'd be happy to read your advice, tips and get inspired by your success. Cheers!

I was the same as you didn't think I would ever go out again without having a fag but here I am 3and a half months later and I feel great its hard don't get me wrong been smoking since I was sixteen and im now 55 and some days I could have smoked but thanks to vaping I have come this far and I can honestly say I feel calmer and I sleep so much better if I do think about smoking I just take a deep breath and do something else to take my mind off it I know it must be scary but if you come on this site like I did when I first gave up there is always somebody in the same boat but I read all the positive comments and there are loads and it really does help so don't be scared be strong and do whatever it takes because believe me you will be so proud of yourself that you have done something that in my case nobody ever beleived I would do so how ever you feel just come on here and post something it doesn't matter how bad you think it sound just write whatever you feel because I gurantee you somebody has felt the same and you will get through it promise
This time around, having a PLAN in place ahead of time was the key for me. Have you talked to a GP or smoking cessation professional? (Ever considered prescription "Champix"?) This site has a wealth of info, too -- but I am glad I consulted pros this time, too!
Hi Black Tie. We have all or most tried to quit several times before it is hard work and u need determination. As Dunn said have u seen a smoking cessation adviser they are a brilliant support. Also if u have tried a lot before as you say I would recommend using nrt to help you through. You can use 2 or 3 I did. Patches for all day help then gum, inhalator, micro tabs etc etc for sudden cravings. They help get u through and I would def consider them in my plan. I haven't used the drugs like champix so don't know about those.
A good plan always helps as well. Why do u want to quit write down your reasons. When is your quit date? Don't make it too long as you say the anxiety increases and you smoke more and you are glorifying the final cigarettes more in your mind.
Alan Carrs book easy way to give up smoking is also helpful. And come on this site often it has lots of resources the pinned posts to the right. And everyone on here helps and supports each other. Good luck ๐

You've definitely hit on the right site.... The people here have helped me not light up time and time again... A friendly bunch๐๐ป
Write your reason down why you have to quit Mine is stroke.. Young women in my family have debilitating strokes who smoke... Scared me into quitting.... Then when I read people's posts on COPD, I'm am sooo relieved I don't smoke now.... Smoking causes anxiety and future disabilities...
So you're welcome to join us on our quit journeys ๐
Well done for making the first big step . We have all tried and failed if we were all honest. But you have to brush your self off not punish yourself and start again you will do it. Stay strong the support here is fantastic
