Congratulations and welcome! :-D

I can only speak for my personal experience, of course, others have done it differently, but for me, I started downgrading my smoking, ie, I started by reducing the number of fags in a day. For instance, if I was going home and there were only a couple in the packet, I wouldn't steer out of the way to go and get a new packet. Those were very little first steps, but they worked up to where I am now - one month free! Because you know it's slavery, right?

That first phase took me a couple of weeks and then I was down to maybe 3-4 a day (the ones after meals). That's when I realized I needed to take a jump, so I went to my doctor and he prescribed Champix. Started taking those, seemed to do nothing for the first 15 days, then they somehow kicked in and, by the time the 2nd course of Champiz started, I was able to just maybe smoke one a day or not even that - just light up and put down. By day 3 or 4 of the 2nd course (like day 18 or 19 on Champix), I took the plunge and quit. Forever. I hope. :-).

This circuit has some bumps and potholes, some ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. So, step up and take your place at the start line. You are very welcome.

So, that was me: cutting down for a couple of weeks + Champix. I also vape occasionally, but with a very low nicotine dosage eliquid. But it helps when the cravings get tough.

Others use inhalors, patches... cold turkey (the very brave ones!).

Whatever you decide about going about it, do go about it. :-)

thank you so much, and also congratulations to you!!!

I have got a copy of the Allen Carr book which I am hoping to start tonight, and I think I will cut down to see how I get on. I have done nic patches in the past and I didn't feel they worked and I have thought of getting Champix. so I appreciate the feed back.xx

Hiya need and welcome to quit support๐Ÿ˜Š

If you have a read of the pinned post on the right its all about which NRT do you think would suit you, this will give you some ideas.

Preparation and planning are a great start to your quit, well done. It's always a great idea to cut down in the run up to your quit and take more notice of when you smoke as in do I really need one now or can I wait a while๐Ÿ˜ณ

I see ya have Alan Carrs book which helps to get your mind in the right place for quitting, so that's a good start๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Which ever way you decide to quit we will help you, as we've all been where you are now.

Good luck and here's to a healthier and wealthier future๐Ÿ€

Stopping is a minute by minute process in the first few days.

Every time you have a feeling to smoke, get distracted, take a walk, drink water.

You will see that its not that hard!! if you can, sleep...

Every time you have a urge, search the web for all the benefits of stopping to smoke and congratulate your self of every minute that you are NOT smoking,

You will see after a few days, you will feel so much better and very proud!!

Good luck, and we are here to support you

Yes, definitely, sleep! That's a great advice. My first few weeks I slept a LOT. I figured - if I'm sleeping, I'm not craving. So those were days of going to bed pretty early and the sleep was a blessing.

"O sleep! O gentle sleep! Natureโ€™s soft nurse". :-D

I have no info on the NRT's - but just want to welcome you here and congratulate you on your decision! It's a great one for sure.

Keep up on this site for encouragement. The folks are wonderful. The support it second to none.

YOU can do this. It will not be easy, so don't kid yourself. You can see the efforts of others on here. You can rant, brag, whine, laugh and even cry. We've all been thru hell with these beastly, tricky cigs.

It's a roller coaster, buckle up and enjoy the ride. HA - no really, it's emotional, but will be soooo worth it.

NOPE NOPE NOPE - YOU CAN DO IT!

Welcome to your new life - your quit will look amazing on you!

Cheers,

Coco

Hi needto, well done on your decision ๐Ÿ˜Š I gave up with patches, I smoked between 10/15 a day and started on the 2nd stage, I had gun as back up but didn't like it.

I think Andrew is using patches but also has inhalation and gun (I think). Maybe you need to think about using additional NRT to help you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Whatever you decide keep us close and we will support you ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€

Hello yes advice is to set up meetings with a smoking advisor. I have got patches as the main nrt and then chewing gum and the inhalator which I alternate gum when stressed inhalator more to relax. It is called combination therapy and has worked very well for me. Having said that it doesn't take away from the fact that u need to be 100% determined and focused. This needs to be ur project and ur main focus. It is still hard and takes all the will power u have got then take one day at a time and the weeks then add up. Let me know if u want any help ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘€

I hope you have found your reason why you need to quit.... Mine is stroke..... talk soon๐Ÿ˜Š
