On my 5th day fag free and feeling low is this normal?

Hi I quit 5 days ago. I am using Nicorette invisi patches. I haven't had a lot of cravings. Probably because I am keeping my mind busy but today I feel really down in the dumps. Any thoughts?

Hi Levis4, its great to meet you and a big warm welcome to this lovely quit site :)

Your going just great :) and well done for reaching your 5th day quit, and also for keeping your mind busy, cos thats what we have to do, distract ourselves :)

As for feeling down in the dumps, yeah, you perhaps will do for a couple of days or so, but this will pass :) May I ask you if you do any form of exercise ? because this helps, even a walk around in fresh air helps :)

Pete :)

Hey Levis, think of all the good that you doing to your body :) :)

Whiter teeth

softer skin

not stinking of fags

breath easier

not getting out of breath when climbing the stairs

softer hair

having more money

But to name a few, write them down and keep it with you to remind you WHY you are quitting the evil smokes eh :) All that poison from smoking is leaving your body as we speak :)

If you love your body, you will succeed :) :)

Hi Levis, welcome to this wonderful site and well done for 5 days off cigs :) I think it's very natural to feel like that in the early days but the good news is that it does get better, believe me :) we have all been there and it takes a while to get used to. So hang in there for better days ahead, stay strong and good luck with your quit journey :) x

Hi Levis, huge congratulations getting to 5 days! You have done amazing, and yes, unfortunately it does seem to be that these really 'down' times come for a lot of us, certainly did for me.

Of course it is absolutely worth persevering, with any help you can give yourself, exercising, maybe an nrt inhalator if you like to have something in your mouth, anything you can think of to give yourself some kindness and some treats. You deserve it, cos you are doing the best thing ever for you and your health. It does get better.

Stay with it, you can do it!

Hi Levis4 - well, guess what?

You made it 5 days cig free!!!!

Wow!

Well done!

You can feel low all you like, but tell your heart to tell your brain to shut up!

It's not so smart. ..

In fact, it doesn't know WHAT it's thinking! It's addicted to fags, but in your heart you KNOW you're doing the right thing.

Joking aside, yes, of course you feel low. You're grieving for a"friend". Granted, a poisonous friend but you cannot help but miss a friend who's been there for you in all your previous times of need. Stressed? Have a cig. Scared? Have a cig. Bored? Have a cig. Hungry? Have a cig. Tired? Have a cig. Just woke up? Just finished breakfast, lunch, dinner? Just about to go to bed? Got a test? For a long drive? Waiting on a bus that just won't appear? All reasons to spark up. You just need to train your brain to immediately want to do something else.

How about coming on here?

Give us all a quick post every time it seems too much.... bet you soon end up missing one or two 'cos you're actually too busy with something else!

Keep up the good work xxx

Yes it seems fairly normal to get low during a quit as like else jay says you are grieving for a friend but it will get easier and some days are better than others, usually find things are worse if I have had a glass of wine, no idea why but the two seem to go hand in hand, keep at it my friend you will get there and good luck with this journey

So pleased! Hope you got something nice. Like the retail therapy reminder :) , I might try a spot of that myself tomorrow, and use some of what I've saved.

Thanks for the reminder Levis :)
