i have copd, i am home bound and have become very obese. is it safe for me to use nicotine patches? i have bought them

i have bought them but someone said it increases chance for stroke/heart attack.

can anyone advise me? i really want to quit, i have tried wellbutrian, cold turkey nothing works.

Congratulations on making one of the best decisions for your health

By continuing smoking you will increase your chances of suffering from a stroke or heart attack. To use patches to help you to stop is much safer.

Many people with COPD don't stop smoking because they believe the damage is already done. However, stopping smoking does make a real difference in terms of slowing disease progression. Stopping smoking can control symptoms and improve the quality of life for people with a chronic condition.

You say that you have already been out and bought patches ready to be used, is it not possible for you to speak to your COPD nurse / specialist with regards to being referred into your local stop smoking service? At least then you will get your NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) free, or at the cost of a prescription.

If you would like to send me a private message with the area that you live in or your postcode, then I can look into who your local stop smoking service provider is. They may even provide home-visits for you.

Hi sweetheart, if you can't go see your Doctor to discuss listen to Emjay. Champix, the drug I'm using has a small associated stroke risk. My Mum died after a stroke at age 47 and my younger brother hasn't fully recovered from a massive stroke age 51. The benefits of not smoking usually outweigh the risks.
