My mother’s PSP , an update

Last Wednesday, we took my mom to ER, she was having diarrhea and was severely dehydrated and was having sever electrolyte imbalance. They decided to admit her to investigate her condition. At the beginning the diagnosis was septic shock with sever electrolyte imbalance. Her magnesium was very low and calcium and potassium were very high. They gave her fluids and electrolyte but didn’t help her.

Her BP was very low!

Then they put central line to give nor adrenaline and put cuffed tracheostomy tube, then BP was elevated a little bit then dropped back, and found AF in her heart.

They decided to taker to ICU to keep her under close supervision. Today the nurse told me that they gave her cortisone because they suspect adrenal insufficiency.

One doctor told me that he is expecting all these changes from her disease condition.

I am really confused what is happening to my mother? Is it all from her PSP condition

Blueclouds07, I am so sorry you are in this frustrating position and separated from your Mum. Yes PSP adds complication to the problems. She is in the best place to establish the cause(s) though. I do pray there is a resolution soon for you both.

So sorry to hear what your family are going through. My impression is that nothing in PSP is predictable, my thoughts are with you and your Mum. 🌻🫂

hello Blueclouds07, i am sorry you are running the ER carousel. I am very familiar with this, my mom has been riding that one for about a year. From that experience, i can attest PSP can wreck havoc on the body's ability to respond properly to just about anything medical professionals throw at it. Having said that, keep at it. Good luck.

I’m sorry for all that your mother and you are going through. I would say it’s not all directly PSP exactly but vulnerability to infections and dehydration is increased when someone is already in a very frail state such as advanced PSP with nutritional problems.
