One week post RP

Hi

Today is one week post RP.

I had it done at St Vincent’s Sydney under the surgeon, Phillip Stricker.

I chose him because of his reputation and experience. I looked at others. Others told me around 10% of men don’t every get dry. My surgeon has documented results that 99% of his patients can expect to be dry. That was enough for me.

St Vincent’s is one of Australia’s truely great hospitals.

I arrived at 8:30 last Wednesday. I was wheeled into the theatre about 11:30.

That night was pretty uncomfortable. I was on oxygen, had a catheter and a drain. And I was groggy post surgery.

Every nurse that looked after me, pretty constantly said that what they were doing was in accordance with Professor Stricker’s protocol. They all knew his practice nurse, Jayne. The whole experience was very professional and reassuringly so.

Thursday the drain came out. The oxygen finished. They fed me.

Friday I was discharged. I had drugs, a bag of stuff and had been trained in how to manage my catheter.

Saturday to Monday, I was getting stronger. I was getting less sore. I started with 3 minute walks and ended in a kilometre walk. I was definitely getting attempts at overnight erections. But the catheter slowed them down.

Monday, Stricker calls. Pathology is a good result. Clear margins. Overall 3+4=7. But there was a tiny bit of 5 in there as well. Definitely time for treatment.

Tuesday, had a cystogram to check if the insides were leak free. Then Jayne took out the catheter. I had to wait around for hours until I’d had a couple of pees.

When ever my bladder got even a bit full, it was pretty painful. But no leaking.

Home. Catheter free. Yay! That evening there was really minor leaking - literally a couple of drops. Dry overnight.

This morning, jerked off. Erection barely there. My first dry orgasm.

Today. Went shopping. After about an hour of walking around, I had a couple of drops leaking. I went to the movies to see the new Quentin Tarantino movie. No leaks.

A good f buddy texted. Talked about sex. Erection much better. He is keen to continue where we left off.

So right now it’s day 7. After the awful trauma of the last few months, I have real hope and evidence that I will be cancer free, dry with some type of an erection.

Thanks for being there guys. You’ve all been great.

I’ll keep, you posted as things develop.

Lee I know this was three years ago. I was just re reading for inspiration as yours was a fantastic recovery. I saw Spoke with Professor Stricker over the phone not long after being diagnosed back in 2019. He was fantastic to talk with, very reassuring and extremely helpful. Re read my pathology and had another look at my test results. I lived in Tassie at the time, eventually had my surgery September 2022 in SA by Mr Singh. Recommend by Professor Sticker. I started out as a Gleason 6, second biopsy 3 + 4 = 7, pathology from surgery 4 + 3 = 7. Found a greater amount of 4.

Post catheter removal no incontinence, still working on the erections with tadalafil 5 mg daily, dry orgasm are just as intense as pre op, but obviously no cum, miss cum, but love the orgasms. Will see specialist 1st March and will speak to him about upping dose of meds for erections, 5mg is just my daily dose for maintenance. Have bought and use a Vac upump on occasions.

Anyway hope your getting on well, happy and healthy as they say.

I just loved your positive story post op it was refreshing to read. It’s not all doom and gloom choosing the operative path for some.

My first PSA post op was undetectable. Due another blood test now.

Take Care

Ian.
