What else beside my quarterly PSA Test?

If I am gonna get my periodic PSA Test, I appreciate others suggestions as to what additional tests I could have added to my visit? I was thinking of things outside standard blood work tests such as Vitamin D, Testosterone, Estrogen etc? Ones that could show overall health and possible factors in watching for PCa even Cancer in general?

Standard Blood work typically includes the following -- CBC with differential/platelet, Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP-14), Routine Urine Culture & Urinalysis, Lipid Panel With LDL/HDL Ratio, Hemoglobin A1c, Thyroxine (T4) Free-Direct-S, TSH reflex to T4.

In my case, I have found, oppositely to what is usually taken for granted, that my total T and DHT are not that closely related. The general assumption here is that DHT is a "fixed" percentage of tT, so they only measure tT which is less expensive and takes less preparation time (DHT costs and takes ~3 times more compared to tT). I am a special case in having the genetic mutation for familial hypercholisterlemia. Perhaps this the reason my tT closer correlates with LDL, while DHT with Triglycerides (TG). Hence, I would propose that you also measure these two quantities for future reference. Have in mind that there is a basic formula and a more cumbersome way for calculating TG from tT, HDL and LDL and many labs report the calculated TG instead of the measured. My experience is that the two are close but not exactly coincident and reputable labs make the distinction clear in their reports.

It was discovered I had a B12 deficiency this summer that was causing some strange stuff to happen. Doctor prescribed monthly injections (which I administer myself) . Things cleared up and my energy level went up noticeably as a bonus. Please don't take my word as the final say but read up on B12 and talk to you doctor about it. I'd recommend anyone over 50 having it checked annually. Good luck !

Most important to you here is PSA.

Next most important is the leading killer in western society CardioVascular Disease (heart disease & stroke) ..... so, a lipid panel would be important .... most Docs will get this automatically.

Next are common deficiencies in our modern society & in aged individuals:

----Vit-D

----B-12

----Magnesium

there are likely others but the above come immediately to mind

Just some quick, probably incomplete, thoughts/opinions.
