PSA Test

So I finished SBRT about a month ago. I’m having pain right in the middle of my back. The RO said go ahead and get a PSA test now even though it’s supposed to be in December. What’s the thinking to see if it’s high and has spread? I had bone scan in April and it was clean. Also what does PSA usually look like after only a month?

ODave,

We chatted over on the inspire site since we were both diagnosed around the same time. I can’t speak to anything other than my own experience. I had SBRT as well, my back aches too from time to time and every pain gives me major anxiety. I had a PSA test a month after treatment though and it was undetectable. My RO said both were expected so I try not to worry much about it.

Hey Jp it’s been awhile, hope you’re doing better. I try not to get to anxious I had a lot of aches and pains before which I think I posted about on Inspire not sure if I did here. The pains all over seems like it started around the same time I started having prostate issues like 2014. I always wondered if there was a connection. I’ll see if I can find that post and put it here, it was really weird for sure. I figured a quick X-ray or something so that’s why I scratched my head when he said PSA test. Oh well I’ll get it done tomorrow. Thanks

Makes no sense to me. It's probably high because cancer cells are dying. I would have no idea how to interpret it.

Not sure either, I guess I’ll find out what the thinking is after the blood draw thanks

Medical Oncologist? Should I be happy it’s half what it was before at a month or is that bad it’s only half?

Don't be a worry wort......you're doing okay.... but I think a M.O. is better than an R.O. in your situation....

Well I had the SRBT treatment at Beth Israel in Boston in March, (3+4) Unfavorable Intermediate Risk, 70 years old, PSA 9.3, no ADT

After 30 days PSA went to 1.4 and just had one a few weeks short of six months and now .4 so hope it continues to move in the right direction, very little side effects and feeling great!

From 9 to 1 in a month sounds amazing. I’m hoping mine goes down more. I wonder (I know all guys are different) if it’s an indicator of later recurrence if PSA levels aren’t really low right after treatment.
