How soon can you have a transfer after c section.

Hi everyone

I had my son in October 2020 by emergency c section. I am solely bottle feeding and haven't had a period yet. I know they say you shouldn't get pregnant for a while year after a c section but I'm keen to try ivf again because I know I might not get pregnant easily. I'm 38 and don't want to leave it too late. So my questions is how soon realistically, can u get pregnant again after a c section? My scar healed without any issues. I'm thinking of waiting April or May for first transfer.

You can get pregnant after a c-section but they advise waiting two years, your scar may be healed externally, but internally is a whole different matter, falling pregnant so soon after a c-section can risk a uterine rupture which would put your life, your uterus and the pregnancy at risk, your best off discussing your options with your fertility clinic, but it takes a long time after a c-section to fully heal inside and out xx

Hi,I am in the same position as you. My doctor suggested a minimum of 6 months after the c section to wait before commencing fertility treatment again.

Ideally he said 1-2 years after would be preferable to give the body enough time to heal as it was major surgery. It also reduces the chances of a uterine rupture and a low birth weight for baby. He also suggested asking the fertility consultant which I have done just awaiting a response from them now.

My clinic said minimum 10 months before they were able to do a transfer after a section, but preferred a year, it was 6 months after an uncomplicated delivery. I needed a Dr letter to confirm ok to start again.

Best to ask you clinic hun. Most say a year. I, like u, understand the need to crack on again after having a baby through IVF as time is never on our side. I waited a year but that time absolutely flew by as my little boy hardly gave me a minute to think and make a cup of tea. Lol. Wishing you all the best and congrats on your little one. Xxx
