Just had mirena coil fitted earlier today, after consultant gynaecologist recommended it. I'm assuming pain afterwards is normal? I'm having really bad cramping but failed to ask if I should expect this much discomfort. I took off pretty quick after the procedure as I found the whole experience very uncomfortable.

I've had a history of gynae issues which resulted in fertility treatment and ended up having a very traumatic birth 15 months ago.

I have a very long day at work tomorrow and starting to wish I had the day off now πŸ˜”

I had cramps with mine the first evening, like period pains. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen that evening and felt fine the next day just a bit twingy.

I've had three of these in total, the first time I had it fitted though it started to get really uncomfortable and I ended up pulling it out in a field while I was out walking my dogs πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ the other two times were fine.

Thank you so much for your reply. The doctor said I may get a few mild cramps but it's been much more severe then that. Ended up at pharmacy getting some stronger pain killers as ibuprofen and paracetamol didn't do the job. Feel like such a wimp but I've had a really rough patch and just been listed for gynae surgery so I think I got myself into a real state about having it done. Feeling easier this morning but still twinging and sore 'down there'. I'm so sorry your first one was uncomfortable too. Hope you're doing okay now 😘

I pushed a baby out of out in August so now the coil seems like a walk in the park πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Hi I had the copper coil fitted a few years back and I had intense cramping where I struggled to walk( was supposed to go to work), the next day it had eased a little and then got better with time. x Don't feel like a wimp it's different for everyone and just rest up :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. It's definitely been more then 'mild cramps', felt really unwell overnight and ended up seeing GP today. I just wanted some reassurance that what I have been feeling is normal but felt so anxious as it was a male GP I had to get rebooked in with a female GP. I'm just so embarrassed. Ended up back at work and promptly burst into tears πŸ˜”

Thank you so much. Feel better knowing I have an appointment with a female GP, just feel so embarrassed about my reaction. I've just been listed for gynae surgery too so I think it's been alot to take in in a short space of time. Hope you're okay too xxx
