Just wondered if anyone has had the Mirena coil to control heavy bleeding?
Gynaecology recommended it to me as I am having very heavy bleeding at times.
After having fertility treatment and a very traumatic birth, I'm a tad nervous about messing around with my hormones using birth control and I think I'm a little anxious about the procedure 🤦
Just curious how others have found it and looking for a little reassurance xxx

I've had it twice, once for the full time and once only for a year as we decided to try for a family.
I really liked it, I found that I didn't have any periods just occasionally between spotting sometimes. I didn't ever have period pain or side effects.
It wasn't that comfortable to insert but that was before I gave birth! Now it would probably be a walk in the park 😂
It might not be for everyone but it was great for me. If it didn't with for you, you can get it removed and the progesterone leaves you very quickly.
Thank you so much for your reply. I stupidly googled it and there were lots of negative reviews and so I got into a bit of a panic over it ☹️ so it's great to hear a positive story.
I actually want to gynaecology to have my episiotomy scar looked at as it's been painful and 'tight' so to speak. Consultant was lovely but recommended a steroid injection and to my surprise, injected me 'down there' right there and then. No time to get nervous but my god did it hurt. I thought nothing could compare to childbirth but it was horrendous.
When they said about having the coil fitted I just didn't think I could tolerate having my bits fiddled with again 😂 and having undergone fertility treatment due to hormone imbalance, I won't lie, I'm nervous about the long term effect on fertility as my husband and I would love to consider a sibling for our daughter when the time is right.
Hope you are doing okay? This forum is an absolute lifesaver xxx
Hi there, unlike Seb9 mine was a totally different story. Although I don't have it anymore, I got it removed about 2 years ago. It actually made me bleed often like twice in a month. When it was first inserted although the doctor warned me that it could make me bleed for a while then the bleeding could cease altogether or get occasional bleeding from time to time. But in my case I just continued bleeding frequently so I got tired of it and had it removed. But I think for most people it works well for them by controlling bleeding. You could give it a try and see if it works for you. All the best
Hi Habes, thank you for your reply and I'm sorry to hear that the coil didn't work for you. My understanding is that it can be removed at any point ? Part of me thinks i have nothing to lose by giving it a go as my bleeding is so erratic at the moment anyway. I'll have a good chat with my GP to talk things over. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Hope you're okay ? Xxx
I'm pretty sure it can be removed at any point most especially if you are not happy with it. On my part I was persuaded by the doctor to keep it on that the bleeding would subside but unfortunately it didn't work. But I'm sure it could work for you and after all you have got nothing to lose since that's the problem you are facing. A note on that, I just wanted to let you know bi didn't have any problems when it was inserted it didn't hurt at all just very mild discomfort that was it. But, pulling it out was totally different ball game, it took me 3 different visits to the doctor's to get it out. The first doctor that tried to get it out said that the threads was cut too short and the ends had curled up so I really had a hard time getting it out. But please don't be scared I just wanted to let you know. I wish you all the best. Good luck
Thanks again for your message. I'll probably end up going for it and seeing what happens. Can't be any worse then having a steroid injection down there... I thought nothing could compare to childbirth but that was horrific 🤦
Hope it wasn't too traumatic for you having it removed 😘
