hi all, does anyone have any advice on how to get a one year old to take penicillin and calpol, been trying since Friday and will only take a small amount I've tried different syringes and through a bottle teat and cut a dummy but still isn't accepting and refusing to take it 😞 I feel so bad for my baby and other than going to hospital I'm unsure if anything else I can try

penicillin and calpol
hi there! We have put antibiotics in a small amount of the Ella’s kitchen prune puree as this helps to really disguise the taste. Failing that, we have also put them in milk but the important thing is to make sure that they have finished everything. We did eventually do better with using the syringe. If you aim for the back of the cheek and go in small bursts you can avoid them tasting the medicine.
I feel you! We resorted to having two of us - one trying to distract our daughter, the other forcing the antibiotics in using a syringe, as she outright refused to take it. Was pretty stressful but as soon as she’d swallowed it she was back to her happy self. Now she’s three and she loves taking medicine, so it must just be a phase! Good luck
we just put it in the milk (actually in the milk not just the top of the teat) when they were younger only out the amount of milk they will defo finish though . He loves it now though and takes the syringe like it’s a sweet 🤣
thank you all I will try the milk, it's as it says needs to be on an empty stomach, I've tried the syringe just at the back but she spits its out and don't swallow it's so hard as she has tonsillitis I know she needs antibiotics and the pain relief also has conjunctivitis again for a 2nd week
Hope the milk trick works for you! You’ve got this, please try not to get upset if she’s not getting all the of the antibiotics she will be ok. My son kept getting recurring tonsillitis (and conjunctivitis as a secondary infection) and even when we couldn’t get the full doses in he still made a recovery enough to drink again at his normal level within a couple days. He’s almost three and manages tonsillitis so much better than before - it’s tough now but it will get easier x
