I have issues with anxiety made worse today

I was walking home outside and someone lit a cigarette

I had a mask on but now very worried as I tried to walk away but could smell the smoke

I have been careful since the Covid Pandemic and now I am fearing the risk

This is not a cry for attention just anxiety

Hello Hb2003

I quite smoking almost 30 years ago and ex-smokers are the worse. I can not stand the smell of smoke, but real glad I do not have asthma. Must be a continuous battle for you. I would have to say I never could stand to smoke and eat at the same time, which is nice as not to common. Blessings.

Hi Roukaya, if you've downloaded the app, make sure it's with you when you go out, if you're in contact with the virus it'll let you know, so no more worrying when you see other people outside smoking or not

Roukaya profile image
Roukaya in reply toJennymary

Good evening I should have downloaded this a long time ago

I did not but now I realise how important it is

I have downloaded it and thank you

That's good, make sure you have it with you when you go out and if you're in contact with the virus it'll let you know, when I'm at work I deal with the general. Public, so far the app hadn't beeped at me 😊

Good evening I hope you are well

Thank you for your understanding

I think it is only now I see this because as my own Mother explained there is smoke everywhere from smokers but it was still in the air from previous smokers so as you saw no one smoke do did not perceive this risk

I hope you are well and I hid by the gates of a local church next door to where I live

I have anxiety issues which can be triggered

My Mother does not understand how acute my anxiety is

Plus also I have discovered my neighbours are not to be trusted

They seem to be asking when will I be away from my home as I had a habit of leaving home for several weeks to go overseas

I simply said when I am able to have the vaccine

I am learning to refrain from talking to them out of loneliness as they are not to be trusted

These are people who I thought were kind and polite when they first moved in

As far as I'm aware inhaling a fragment of smoke from a cigarette does not increase the risk of getting covid unless the smoker has it anyway. To be honest you get more pollution from traffic than a smoker outside!

Lockdown rules in the UK only state you have to wear a mask in public places (unless exempt), not in the street. I see very few masked people in the street where I live. Life will be easier for you if you can keep a sense of perspective.

I hope you are okI think it is the first time I came near to a smoker but like my Mother says there is smoke from smokers everywhere but I did not see it like today

I agree with what you have said

hypercat54 profile image
hypercat54 in reply toRoukaya

Many people seem to think now that inhaling one cigarette will give you lung cancer. This is ridiculous as your lungs are much stronger than that. The main cause of pollution in the air is traffic pollution so if you are worried about this so much then avoid main roads as much as possible and only go out at quiet times of day. This is much more dangerous to your health.

Roukaya profile image
Roukaya in reply tohypercat54

Good evening I hope you are well

I expect I had no idea how pollution can cause so much damage to your lungs

I simply did not know

Do you suffer from any kind of respiratory illness that enables you to understand the correlation between the lungs and air pollution

Also I am becoming weary of my neighbours

At the beginning when they moved in a few years ago they were polite and helpful and were kind enough to watch over my home when I was away

Recently they have been asking questions about when I will be going away of which I have said when the vaccine becomes available

I think they realise I live on my own and clearly since last Monday she made a point of reminding me that she has a partner and will be getting married and buying a new home

I did not answer back but I was triggered and as a result of this I simply say hello and I will not engage in talking to someone who is reminding me of my vulnerabilities

Hi I just woke up I went to sleep crying as I'm feeling upset about going home as have issues with my house I so want a nice home that feels like one it's been 2 years of waiting nearly after I got rats in my kitchen ceiling took over a year for my nebour to get her drain mended as environment health had to proof it was her drain coming from the sewer long story I'm haunted by what happend recently had nightmare there were flies crawling on kitchen floor, as there was about 8o flies a day sometimes on the window I had magnets coming out the tile grout flies get in through air vent when smell a dead rat, I want my independance back I also had accident there when tried to go back last first lockdown I had PTSD and no sofa I'd got rid of it and I would sit feeling trembly I ended up drinking too much wine one night I fell over my cat and badly bruised my ribs to ight I nearly fell downs stiars as he flew in front my foot cought him we both went flying I think this partly brought it back how in danger I am of going home, us the wine shop across the road, my house won't sell I'm going to get my builder to add a room in the loft, I have leak in the kitchen ceiling where there are still rat droppings it can't be fixed it's a bat pitched roof I'm having to face going back knowing the ceiling will come down as it's going thin the plaster board and the nightmare will begin again there's be droppings all over like used to before when the baiters would take a board off to put poison up, I love animals I am reminded by my horror of what happend when I feed the sqwuirells as they are so gentle taking nuts off my hand it breaks my heart I had to kill the rats there the same as sqwuirells without tails, I still feel upset now I woke up thought it morning I've had 2 hours sleep my dad died in June and I'm fine about that now but I was there in my own when this happens I had to self issolate as of my mam's fears I may have cought the viris, I had to live with flying black Beatles that had been breeding in my best I used to safe them and put them outside, I'm trying to move away from the past and make a new start and think you should too, I recently thought I wanted a boyfriend and joined a date site a free one called plenty of fish I have lots of interest but can't be bothered at moment, and of course you never know who you may be meeting, can you ever trust anyone, I have a instinct who I can trust and maby you do too, my mam is very suspicious of people she doesn't know and I'm usually too trusting sometimes she's right sometimes I say she's been too negative and distrusting, if you don't feel safe I would remove yourself from the situation, sorry for going on but I will feel different tomorror perhaps and come on here and have a few laughs with people which helps my upsetment my heart's pounding again from my anxiety, I'm going to have to start doing my meditation CD also is there a Buddhist class you can go to it's good philosophys they teach you and there lovely people and I mentioned about getting a pet my cat is the exception as he is under my feet a lot and fast and maby when I move I should get a bungalow with no stars i really don't know I'm trusting in fate and keep praying I will pray for you too when I look at the moon, ease write a list of your options, and you can't carry on like this neither can I we have to make changes and give fate a push in the right direction I feel we get sines in life that help to direct us I'm going to charge my phone and get cocoa I feel sick too now, and I get stomach problems when upset i meant to say I used to work in a pub in kitchen and breathed in about hundred cigerette smokers smoke per day this was 2o years ago I have no worst asthma than I did before I worked there I was there 2 years the air is used in cities and I want to move away from it good night if your not here when my phones charged hugs from Mandy and pixie XXX

Good morning I hope you feel better than yesterday

I can understand the crying but it is important to have faith that eventually things will work out

I was very worried with the smoking incident then I realised that my neighbour is not to be trusted

Out of loneliness I would talk but I realise that she brags and boasts about her future plans and makes me feel worse

Also as I used to travel quite a bit she was asking me when I would be travelling again

I simply said I am waiting for the vaccine

I am very suspicious of them and I will not talk to them in case out of loneliness I give something away

I realise you are concerned with your home but the home will sell and a better home will have your name on it

I get despondent when I realise how vulnerable I am and people see this and expose my vulnerabilities to my face

I would like to meet a suitable person with wisdom , maturity and life experience and bit someone younger

But until I start finding employment how can I meet ?

in reply toRoukaya

Hi I feel I need to sort my house situation out before thinking about men it's usually at work we meet people you have to be careful right now as your vulnerable like me and in my town there is a drastic shortage of men and age there married or gone off women I do know people that have met nice men my friends sister for one from a other town and I wouldn't rule out internet dating I mentioned the free one but you can try a paid one where there would be a better class of person on there most relationships are formed on internet now Facebook and various social media sites you many could join this is a health site and the people are older I find and mostly female or married I've had a few men on here PM me my age mainly older and from overseas I told them I don't PM strangers, we need to get the vaccine before can even think.about a man and I'm tied here with my mam right now until the day she dies in fact it's one thing we need to deal with at a time I understand it ups sets you hearing people's happy story's about there perfect life's I guess we just have to be more patient and thank you for saying there's a house with my name on there's a job with your on and a new life too for both of us, I know I'll never be happy as it's unattainable my mam will die one day and my cat and all we can do it try and be happy in the moment like I ended up last night as I watch Bridget Jones baby lol a romantic comedy film hope you can try and find something to do that makes you feel better even if it's just s nice film I'm spending less time on here as it dazzles my eyes the screen on my phone and effects my sleep and I have repetitive strain on my hand and shoulders and neck so I need to sort out strict rules for coming on here and the position I use take care hugs from us xxx

She might just be being kind as she knows you are on your own and is trying to give you some company? Most people do have a partner and I hope you aren't triggered by all of these.

I am alone too and sometimes it really hacks me off but having one also means you have to compromise and everything in the garden isn't always lovely. I am older than you and have given up the dating game years ago and accepted that life is more peaceful on my own so I concentrate on friends and social activities instead. I am really missing these during lockdown and am lonely.

Roukaya profile image
Roukaya in reply tohypercat54

Good morning I hope you are well

I think at times I was able to cope with loneliness but now given my age I was triggered by my neighbours comments and how bad her boasting made me feel

She is exposed all of my vulnerabilities and was asking personal questions as to when I will be away

I have decided to only say hello and keep my conversations to a minimum with her

I wonder how you are coping

Are you likely to get the vaccine soon

I hope you are able to manage and thank you for listening to me

I understand what you are saying but I think you would be much better off learning to deal with your triggers, maybe with therapy, rather than avoiding the situation. Is that possible for you? The NHS does offer free counselling - when lockdown is over of course!

I dislike the smell of tobacco smoke; it’s repulsive and such a terrible health risk. Wife’s mom was a smoker, and she has always felt that second-hand smoke causes her to have some limitations (lungs) that she wouldn’t otherwise. I am with you!

hypercat54 profile image
hypercat54 in reply toStub007

Yes of course the health risks of smoking or being a passive smoker are very well known. But Roukaya was talking about anxiety and getting the smell of a cigarette in the street causing her anxiety. This is very different and will not cause her any harm at all.

Stub007 profile image
Stub007 in reply tohypercat54

I understand, hypercat54; my point is that the very act of seeing someone smoke is anxiety-producing, including for me.

hypercat54 profile image
hypercat54 in reply toStub007

Why?

Stub007 profile image
Stub007 in reply tohypercat54

It is bothersome because smoking is a health hazard to the smoker and to those who might inhale it.

hypercat54 profile image
hypercat54 in reply toStub007

I'm not being funny but so what? If you don't want to smoke or be near a smoker you haven't got to be. No one knows more than smokers what a health risk it is but it is their choice. Others peoples nasty habits are nothing to do with you and often people smoke as a crutch much the same as drinkers drink. Or others take illegal drugs. Don't forget one man's (and woman's) meat is another persons poison.

As a non meat eater for many years I really hate lunching with non vegetarians but accept it even though it distresses me. Too much red meat is dangerous too. But as a reasonable tolerant person I totally accept it's their choice and I don't have the right to criticise them. In other words I mind my own business. Of course this doesn't apply to those who hurt or kill others or otherwise break the law, but that is a totally different matter.

The type of person I hate most is the 'intolerant' one. Those who try and make other people's business their own and impose their own morality on them. As long as it doesn't affect me I live and let live.

We shouldn't judge others until we have walked a mile in their shoes.
