I am disappointed I haven’t been approached by local community or council I live in a single bungalow Carer to mental and physical disabled brother 71 who has carried on ‘as normal’ I’ve walked a few miles now to see him in Sheltered Housing he’s asked on phone if he’s alright by Council Support Worker. I am on Cholesterol and Type2 Diabetes Prevention statins and diet I am underweight especially not getting shopping regularly no delivery and told ‘not vulnerable enough’ I went for blood test and nurse said she had virus so avoiding doctors! Any suggestions?

Hi Madamh, The nurse said she has the virus! Actually has it now and is still working do you mean?
Would you be able to go on line and order your shopping for delivery?
Ali🙂
It was early days I don’t think the nurse meant Covid19 she was wearing PPE and because I don’t have a car they were going out in the car park to patients in case of the virus and I had to go in. Also yes I have been trying for delivery but me and my brother have been using small shop they’ve been helpful, we can go together.
Hi Madamh,
Give this number a call, 0808 196 3646. This is where you can register for help from the nhs volunteer service. They can support you with shopping, medicines delivery and check in and chat calls. I think you should be eligible, but they will let you know for certain.
If you get no joy there, ring your local age concern people. They might be able to help you directly with shopping, but if not they can direct you to services that will.
So sorry you have ended up without support. Hopefully things will change for you.
Lots of extremely clinical vulnerable and shielded people haven't been offered help. They've shown initiative, picked up the phone and called the council themselves or there is the Red Cross or the Covid-19 Mutual Aid Community online.
Hi Madamh,
My sister had quite a struggle for her and her husband to become shielded and I don't think she was alone in that. I advised her to speak to her GP which she did and eventually they did become shielded. It's late in the process now, as even some shielded people are being encouraged to begin to go out, but if you feel you need help, then i'd definitely say to ring your GP practice and ask to speak to a GP and explain why you need shielding.
I've heard GPs saying that they have not had enough control of the process and that government decided who was to be eligible, and the YouGov website made many people think they were not eligible.
I hope you manage to get some help.
