My isolation

I'm new here. I am on the HealthUnlocked PSPA site which I joined in 2014 when my wife became ill with a rare neurological condition CBD. My wife died in August last year.

I have rheumatoid Arthritis and Rheumatoid lung disease.

I realised I would be within the shielding group back in march and self isolated then.

I received 3 letters telling me I was in the shielding group so am now well and truly locked in. I have two sons who with their wives are looking after me doing my shopping etc. My lung condition has worsened and I am now using the care company who looked after my wife to do house chores cooking meals etc.

I'm quite content with my own company so don't allow the isolation to get me down.

It will be interesting to share how others are coping.

Best wishes. Ken

People who are shielding are allowed tomorrow as long as they follow the rules. But I guess it's up the individual if they go out or not

Where did you get that from?

My letters say 12 weeks from the date of the letter. Which for me is 29th June. I've got the dates marked off in my diary.

I have a nice garden and the weather is fine so I'll stay where I am safe.😊

I saw that on TV yesterday it was for people with Asthma and the notes do clearly say if you wish to stop your isolation consult your GP.

I have a hospital appointment with my consultant on Monday. It is going to be by telephone. Be interesting to see what he says,

Just sharing what I find but I did more research after the reading them and they are all shielding group's but I would definitely check with your consultant as your lung condition took a turn for the worst. Sorry about your wife though. I am pleased that you are being looked after in this unsusal situation as a country we have been thrown in

Just been reading today's paper.

We can go out and meet with one person so long as we keep 20metres apart. There are loads of other caveats. It will be interesting at the school gates when the children go back to school in the morning. Both my son's are teachers so I will be losing some of my support.

If the weather stays like this I will be in the garden.

Wishing you all well.

Ken

I'm really sorry to hear about your wife ken, that is really sad. It's good that your sons and their wives are looking after you, that takes the worry out of shopping etc and it's good that you have a care company to help look after you too. I don't blame you for chosing to continue to isolate. I was told by letter from the rheumy department and by text and phone call from Gov helpline that I was at risk and not to go out until end of June. I am happy to do that as I feel it is too soon yet, to be honest, even if they hadn't told me, I would still choose to stay at home longer. Stay safe. x

I am completely on the same wavelength as you. I am going to obey the doctors and my own instincts rather than trust the politicians. I will have the advantage of a chat with my rheumatologist tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on. Stay safe! x😊

I had my consultation with a rheumatology nurse. She advised me to continue to shield so hopefully I shall enjoy the sun to 29th. June.😊

Hello Ken, and welcome to the Positive Wellbeing group.

It's good to hear that you are surviving shielding as best you can, and best of all that you are happy with your own company. I think that helps such a lot. I hope that with the help of your care company, all your domestic needs are being met, so that you can just relax and look after your health. Take care and I hope you'll enjoy being here within this community! 🌈

Hi Ken, I’m really sorry that you are poorly, but you seem to be feeling very positive about life at the moment. Well done! I’m so sorry that you lost your wife to CBD. I have been diagnosed with CBD, and I’m struggling to come to terms with it. I have no idea how it is going to progress, and I wondered if you would be prepared to tell me about your wife. It may be far too painful for you which I would understand completely. This is my first time posting on here. Any help or information about CBD would be gratefully received. Enjoy your garden!

Am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I will be very happy to answer any of your questions.

I came to this site from the Health unlocked PSPA site which covers every aspect of PSP and CBD and if you read through my posts I'm under the same name you will get a good idea of how the disease progresses. You will also get help from others who will be going through the same ordeal. Ps it was too hot in the garden this afternoon I had to go inside.

Thanks very much, I also came to this site from the PSPA site. I will have a look at your posts. It was 23° here today, hot for us as well! We must make the most of this lovely weather. Thanks again!
