To shield or not...

Had a prescription delivered yesterday by the local volunteer scheme set up by my council for shielders.

Was told that yesterday was the last day and the council assistance was now finished, i asked on what reason and he said -

‘ You have had a letter and are no longer shielding’

I said this is news to me. I have not had a letter and he said he would pass this back to the council.

I will be ringing them helpline on Monday to investigate.

Started to wonder about my priority food delivery slot, what will happen to that.

Has anyone else been told this please?

I received a phone call last Monday, advising me that food deliveries would be stopping as we will not be carrying on shielding. I have not had t verified by anyone and the lady making the phone call only told me she was from the council. I am not listening to a no m

named woman who has no credentials and didn't even tell me which department she was from.

That is terrible, i feel we are being shoved outside to undo all our hard work staying in. I will certainly be making enquiries tomorrow.

So sorry you received that call, my next food delivery is on June 28th.Hope i receive it,

Take care Sops

The communication is absolutely rubbish isn't it!

It certainly is, misleading and worrying.will be enquiring in a robust manner tomorrow.

This has come out of the blue! I know they said they would review during the week beginning the 15th, but I stupidly thought it would be extended, for a month or so, just to check how things are going, before they let us out.

I keep checking, but I have heard nothing. It has been rumoured that letters are on there way. Looks like someone forgot to post them!

I have been onto the gov.uk web site, can find nothing to say that there is as yet a date for the clinically vulnerable who are shielding, to stop shielding and therefore needing assistance. I can find nothing on the NHS volunteers web site either. I think you should be contacting your member of parliament, to find out what the situation "should be", rather than what local people "think" it is.

I also had a phone call from my local council a couple of weeks ago, asking if I had the food package this week, I said yes thankyou, Then she said we will be stopping the food packages sometime In july, I said that will be ok, I use at least 80% of food package they give us. As far as I know we should be getting letters over the next few weeks from the government and also I think we are still able to book priority slots for the supermarkets uptil end of July and probably beyond that (don't grant me) that is what I was told or read. I get my prescription delivered from my pharmacy so no middle man/woman.

I think we will be getting an update on the Thursday 25th June from the government.

Only just read this.Interesting as someone was saying on here they got a letter today -the day after Matt Hancock said he would be writing to everyone about the fact that shielding will ' be paused' on August 1st!!!I think he also said help would finish at the end of July.Makes me wondef if this was pre planned and it had been leaked out earlier? I know Im cynical but Im beginning to wonder if the decision was made for economic reasons

It seems odd that it's being 'paused' suddenly on 1st August-no phasing it in.Unless of course further detail will be given in his letter.

Maybe I misheard and mis read the situation?

I agree this is purely for economic reasons,

I also have had my letter and will have to re- enter shielding if asked to. It is quite ambiguous as it says my priority slot will remain open until end of August and meds will still be delivered until the end of August, and I should still stay in and not visit shops.so-what has changed?said that my meds would be delivered still but after July 4th only as I am extreme vulnerable, and they are contacting supermarkets to keep EV slots open.

Went for my first long walk with a friend yesterday in an isolated area and felt giddy with all that open space!

The whole thing has been so confusing.I will wait and see what my gp/rheumatology say as they have been the most helpful.I'm not going to rush into anything but continue to use common sense.

It really is a shock to the system isn't it, going out again?I felt very nervous as I live in a town.Even the 'common'-the most isolated area was very busy.Good to be out again though.

Yes it is scary, when my friend took me out yesterday, if people came towards me, I was backing into brambles and hedgerow to widen the space between us.

I don't intend to go into town or shop, fortunately my same friend is great and shops for me every week.

Its this sort of time that shows you who your friends are. I have had a shock on this front when my best friend of 25 years’ disappeared’ , taking her 4 different supermarket slots with her.

lesson learnt.

Glad you are enjoying fresh air, cannot be beaten.

I am getting a bit braver and did get a takeaway coffee, but only because the place was empty and they were following stringent hygiene and distancing procedures.

To be honest I haven't really missed shopping-now- I never thought I'd ever say that!!!

I got the promised letter from Matt (Hancock and yes he did sign it Matt only. Call me old fashioned but I don't like the informality). Doesn't actually say a great deal but yes it confirms that support ends on 31st July. Seems to me to be a pleasantly worded 'ok folks that's it, you're on your own'. Cynical? Moi?

Non, Have just booked a haircut for 30/07. My hairdresser is one to one in her salon with no one else there, and I know her well, but still feel very nervous, coffee sounds good...

I can't see myself getting an appt with my hairdresser for a long time- he's shielding too, and is very popular so there will be a long waiting list!!!Also, as the salon's in London, I'm not too keen to go up there. I know I could go locally but I've been with my current one for over 20 yrs and I really like the way he cuts my hair.

Hopefully by the time you get to your hairdresser you will have been out a bit more and will feel more confident.

Yes the coffee was wonderful. Oh- did I mention there was chocolate cake involved too :-)

No you did not, that is just a dream now., am putting on weight even thinking about chocolate cake. My son is keeping a running account of how much i owe him, he is paying my food bills as i do not have on line banking, and is ‘horrified’ at how much i spend? Cake is an anathema to him, (, tax consultant and marathon runner)would have to slide in as extra washing powder or something.

I have a small, local pharmacy who has always delivered to me so very lucky. Perhaps you have on in your area.

I have a pharmacy locally but they have no delivery slots-unfortunately.

However my Matt- letter tells me that the local authority will deliver until the end of August,
