feeling pretty lost

I don't know what to do. I feel so sad all of the time and burst into tears everyday. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and I'm sat bolt upright in bed crying. Sometimes I'm overcome by a wave of panic that turns my stomach upside down.

I feel so incredibly lonely and don't know who to talk to about this (this is probably the wrong group!) and I certainly don't want to upset my family. I really should appreciate what I have and be happy but I have felt this way for so long.

Would a GP laugh me out of the surgery? I'm scared they would but I'm really struggling on my own.

Don't feel worried about going - your doctor is there to help with your mental as well as your physical health and will you find out which therapies and treatments are available. They will be able to direct you to the appropriate treatment. Most doctors see people every day who are feeling anxious, depressed or are having problems coping and want someone to talk to.

Definitely talk to your friends and family too as their support will be massively helpful.

Hope you feel happier soon.

Dear Starr,

First of all NO you are NOT in the wrong place! Secondly, as riktrnr has already told you, Doctors are as much there for sore feet as a 'sore head'. No you won't be 'laughed out the surgery' and, if you are, find another Doctor!

Without being, in any way whatsoever, nasty- you haven't told us very much about yourself or, more importantly perhaps, your condition. It is very difficult to advise you further without more information. No please don't get me wrong here I'm NOT prying, as such, but an 'overview' of your physical condition/diagnosis would be very helpful.

Such an overview of MY condition would 'run' like......"I have 'uncategorised' ANCA Vasculitis, which attacked my brain, kidneys and heart. I had a kidney transplant, in July 2013 after four years on dialysis"......and would continue in a similar vein.

All this said I do send my, indeed all our, best wishes to you Starr-despite all we DO understand really.

I know that I speak for all when I say that we wish you better hope to hear from you soon.

Very best wishes AndrewT

No you are not in the wrong place. I went through similar to you and I went to the GP. I was certain that I was not depressed and he said that I was. They have a set of questions that they ask you and these show if you are depressed or not. Please don't go on alone. Your GP ought to be able to help you, if he calls himself a doctor! Otherwise, go to a Healthfood shop such as Holland and Barrett and they do natural anti-depressants. But I would urge you to see your GP. What part of the country do you live in? I'm is South Wales. Please keep in touch. Sorry that no-one else has replied but this doesn't mean that people don't care. Being depressed is nothing to be ashamed of so do not be afraid to speak. Some people will always say "Pull yourself together!" But they have never been depressed! If you fell and broke your arm there is no sense in saying "Pull your arm together" is there!!
