LVV and UTI

Started a UTI 31 March and had 3 days of Nitrofurantoin. Retested still positive so 7 days on same drug started 5 April. callout for ambulance on 4th April as I had a temp of 38.3 and could hardly lift my head from pillow am. They gave me paracetamol which brought temp down and did vitals and investigated rash on both legs which they called up another specialist paramedic who thought it was some kind of urticaria. They did not take me to hospital as I was seeing GP that day who started me on 2nd course antibiotics 4 April. Took paracetamol through the day but woke next am still with high temp 38.3 so called ambulance again who did vitals and looked at rash but again I did not warrant hospital.Over the weekend I have been mostly asleep but no improvement in symptoms peeing frequently no pain on passing urine and drinking plenty but with no matching output but with some output. Also I seem to have developed cold symptoms! And my constipation has returned which I had been battling with for months. Also fast heartbeat although I don't know if this is anxiety driven. Nausea as well.

Today I messaged the surgery to say back painful and symptoms persist. They say they will get back to me with appointment but who knows when. Bloods booked this Thursday.

I am on 6mg pred should I stay on this reducing monthly but intend to stay here. Anyone any advice or experience here please.

Was the rash due to Nitrofurantoin perhaps? Sounds like you may have caught a nasty virus; Covid has been doing the rounds again and flu is still about albeit in lower numbers now. Your cold symptoms suggest this. I recall a virus in Jan gave me a fever of 40C and the back muscle pain was horrific. Nausea and diarrhoea added to the misery. My 24 year old daughter had the same 2 weeks ago and couldn’t lift her head off the pillow for 4 days and was useless for a week after that.

If you have a fever your pulse rate will be increased. Constipation may be due inadequate fluids to compensate for the fever and made worse if you are having to mouth breathe and are nauseated. So soon in a hefty virus infection, I wouldn’t expect you to be feeling much better yet. You could do the sick day rules but if you don’t want to, do not reduce until you are much better. Likely if they do inflammatory markers soon the results will be abnormal just from this.

Thank you for that I didn't think of putting the temperature down to the cold as cold must have started about Friday when I couldn't lift my head off pillow.

Indeed. Most viruses start with fever and aches with the bit that needs the tissues coming later.

I so feel for you. I had a series of UTI's each infection worse than the last. I was prescribed Nurofantein each time and had worsening reactions to the antibiotic. I became dizzy, nauseous and faint. Eventually I saw a GP and asked for a different antibiotic and had put on my notes that I was not I was not to be prescribed Nurofantein. I had a different antibiotic and within three days I was feeling better. I was prescribed Trimethoprin. I am 89 years old. I hope this helps and that you soon start feeling better.

I saw gp yesterday when oddly I was feeling a bit better. Today though I feel yuck. Sick nauseous aches and pains. Generally unwell and still have urge to go frequently and low output. GP told me to keep taking nitrofurantoin!! Another2.5 days to go. Do hope you have a good results Friday. Forgot to add that I still have rash on my legs which gets worse at night when sleeping.
