Burning Mouth Syndrome

Hi, my name is Deb and I’m hoping to find some answers about proper medication for Burning Mouth Syndrome which would help to relieve the pain and discomfort. I am using a natural toothpaste, as suggested by my dental expert and I’ve dried Dexamethasone rinse which hasn’t really helped as well as a salve for sores. Does anyone have any success stories or suggestions for treatment? It would be most appreciated.

I'm not sure if we have any members with BMS - our forum is a specialist one for a rheumatic condition and although I'm fairly sure someone in the past had it, they may no longer be on the forum regularly.

I assume you have looked for information online?

Hello. I have lupus and burning mouth syndrome. Ask your dentist for”magic mouthwash #5.” Magic mouthwash is compounded and has different combinations. #5 recommended by my dentist works very well. Also, just sucking on ice cubes. Hope this is useful. MM

I have BMS along with Sjögren’s syndrome . I have yet to find anything that works. I know how you feel and how debilitating this is. I'm .in the process of signing up for clinical trials. There is a medication that may help but very expensive £10000 for 1 year treatment. Look at research sites for info. Hope you get sorted. If you find anything that helps please get back to me.

My aunt had burning mouth syndrome. We shared some other symptoms. I haven't been diagnosed but do get mouth sores and often have sharp pain when eating high acid foods. But I find that I get significant relief from a homeopathic remedy if you're willing to try it. The name is Natrum Phos (sodium phosphate). There's good info online. And of course, avoid citrus, peppers, tomatoes and other high acid foods except in small quantities. Good luck!
