Horrible food and mouth taste
If you Google your question there is a lot of information about Pred and its effect on the taste buds. Some researchers believe that the depletion of Zinc could be a factor as it is important in the support of taste. My taste has changed from time to time leading me to dislike foods that I normally like.
What are you on? Maybe knowing everything possible someone can comment.
heart failure tablets Metformin glicklin in sertraline.diagoxin, Rosuvastatin. bisoprolol spironalactone entresto Apixaban plus 2 inhaler
you did ask
lol 😂
Is it a metallic taste? Metformin does that. So can sertraline, statins, bisoprolol for some (doesn't bother me) and valsartan which is in entresto. So not much hope really!!!
Is one of your inhalers a steroid? If you don't rinse your mouth after using it, the build up can lead to thrush and that makes things taste bad too.
Here is an article about possible ways of dealing with it

sweet sickly taste that makes food taste different I use mouth wash to reduce it
My money would be on the Diagoxin, it's pretty toxic. I was proscribed it initially when I was experiencing Atrial Fibrillation and heart failure. I'm normally pretty hardy but just couldn't get on with it and stopped after a week due to feeling sick all the time and loss of appetite and a metallic taste when eating. I was also on Bisoprolol, Spironolactone and Entresto at the time so it was a bit of trial and error to find culprit.
hi
I know you are on heart medications…..my late hubby had similar issue after his triple bypass… but whether that was the procedure itself or the meds not sure.
Yours may well be a combination of meds. .. has it started after you added in a different one[s]?
no about the time I went on Met.
I don't know if this is any help to you but I dont dissolve my soluble Pred cos it leaves a funny taste in my mouth for a while afterwards, I swallow them whole with mouthfuls of food.
I'm on bisop & valsarten, too, but I blame preds. I take tiny sips of sugar-free cranberry juice with dash of lucozade to combat it. Also helps with nausea.
Hi Doublef I am only taking Predsnisolone, as I have an issue with liver function so care is being taken not to overload my liver and yes my taste is affected, some days worse than others, so for me it is definitely the Predsnisolone.
When I was on a fairly high dose of pred. I noticed beer tasted horrible, thankfully better now I am on 7mg.
Pred doesn’t for me, but I know my husband, who is on Metformin, is always complaining that his food doesn’t taste right.
I’ve not noticed sufficiently for me to eat less of it😁
Thank you for that question. When I started with the prednisone, I did notice a lack of taste. I can still smell everything but the taste buds changed for various foods. Thank you for raising this
Prednisolone affected my taste until someone suggested getting empty gelatin capsules to put the tablet in before swallowing. All sorted. Up until then, I had terrible difficult swallowing the pred as the bitterness made me salivate and then I couldn't swallow.
When I was on 40 mg pred it really messed with my tastebuds. Everything tasted sweet. Vegetables tasted like ice cream and I had to use sparkling water instead of tonic. Once I dropped below 30mg everything gradually returned to normal.
