Oh dear! I wouldn’t risk going without for two days. Have a look here for suggestions (found in related posts) as to what you might do now: healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...

Bit of a risk… and 123-go has given link which suggests getting an emergency stock..

This was asked just a few days ago - and really, no it isn't OK. You could set off a real flare but two days of no pred after a long time on it and your adrenal glands are probably doing very little at present is very risky.

These 2 posts cover the options and how it was solved.

I just went straight to a pharmacy, explained what had happened to the PHARMACIST (not counter staff) and got a week's worth of pred as emergency supply in case I was delayed getting back to my own supply in a couple of days.

Or you can call 111 and they will sort it but that may mean long waits on a Saturday.

I rang 111 they got me an emergency prescription as the pharmacy I went to wouldn’t give me any.

Lesson learnt, keep some spare in my handbag. Still can’t believe I forgot them.

What grounds did the pharmacy give you? That is very bad.

I know - I have NEVER forgotten mine before! I usually check a dozen times ...

Just that they wouldn’t do it without approval from 111. I even had my most recent prescription with me which I keep in my purse and they still wouldn’t do it.

That isn't true - they are supposed to "rescue" long term pred patients. You were unlucky there.

It’s easily done. I have logged all the various meds on the health App on my phone to prompt me to take them. However I had left home early one morning recently & was 10 miles away when I realised I’d forgotten to take my Pred. Before I was home that day I definitely felt sore & groggy.

I always carry a dosette box with one days medication with me when I leave the house. It lives next to my phone!

I have just got down to 5mg (again) and only realised I had missed Mondays dose on the Tuesday. I was as stiff as a board and familiar pains knocking at the door, so I would say, def do not miss 2 days or even 1. Interesting coincidence with a difficult call from different gp who said to get off pred pdq - been on it too long! She was not at all interested in what I saw as evidence the pmr is still alive and kicking after 12+ years!

I bought myself a tiny titanium pill pot key ring that holds an emergency dose. It’s on my key ring so when I go out it goes out with me.

I have a small cosmetic bag in my handbag with essentials like lip salve, tissues, inhaler and I also carry a spare strip of pred, as I am a bit prone to going out for the morning and then realising I forgot to take my pred before I rushed out the house. That means I always have spared meds with me.

I rang 111 and got a supply for 2 days thank goodness. In nearly 3 years I’ve never forgotten to bring them with me.

Lesson learnt keep some spare in handbag.

I always carry a days supply of my meds, extra Pred and some paracetamol in a small zip lock bag in my handbag. It’s easier for us ladies who carry handbags but not so easy for the men!

I take about 25 pills for my range of diseases, & keep a days worth hidden in the very bottom of the glove compartment in the car! I also have a small zip bag of ‘handbag pills’ that travels everywhere. You just have to remember to use the hidden ‘stashes’ & replace them at times or they will be past their expiry date!!

Go to their local chemist they will sort it for you and give you tablets I did the same a couple of years ago

Her update was that the pharmacy she went to refused without approval from 111.

pammy_hyland in reply toPMRpro

Why can't she get approval from 111? ...not good...She needs to go to another pharmacy then because they can easily do it ..

PMRpro profile image

She got it via 111 in the end. The trouble is, 111 can take AGES, But that pharmacy needs a talking to!
