I used to give these multiple times a week for travel. The common ones were always inactivated but you can check with them on the day. As always with vaccines one person’s reaction is no guide to yours unless there are clearly people keeling over in droves which there aren’t. You might well feel achey and feverish and a very stiff arm or arms but you might not. The old typhoid vaccine was a bit of a beast but that hasn’t been given for a long time.
Regards Pred and travel. Do be mindful that long haul and sleep disturbance can tip one’s seemingly ok adrenal function into catch-up again. Be open minded and be prepared to lay on that beach for longer than you planned if you have a crash, if you are a holiday rover. I was caught out flying to St Lucia and went from a first morning full of excitement to suddenly a shakey mess in bed for the next 36 hours with a couple mg Pred extra to stop the crisis. Dehydration can also be a trigger and some people deal with low cabin pressure than others.
Thank you SnazzyD, that’s much appreciated. It’s definitely the furthest I’ve travelled with PMR so slightly apprehensive but I’ll take additional pred just in case and rest when I can!
HiI went to Bali last June when on 1mg pred. I had diptheria, polio and tetanus, typhoid and japanese encephalitis vaccinations. No adverse effects whatsover, and had an amazing time in Bali. JE was an added precaution as mossies seem to like me., although it was dry season, but it just prevented me worrying about the chance of it.
Hi Dorothy You're at exactly the same point in taper as me. 1/2mg. I had booster for Typhoid and combined Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio last week prior to holiday in Cambodia and Vietnam next month.
No ill effects , I did check with nurse that they were not live vaccines.
Have I great holiday in Bali. We went there in 2019 and would love to return.
I'm also travelling to Bali in April....beginning of April. I had the tetanus and typhoid jabs a couple of weeks ago with no side effects, apart from a slightly sore arm for a couple of days. I didn't need the Hep A booster as I'm still covered until next year, apparently when you've had the jab it lasts for 25 years until you need it again. Like you, we decided to not have the JE one and take good mozzy sprays, and avoid risk of rabies by maintaining distance near wild animals (am thinking of the monkeys in Bali in the monkey forest and elsewhere). Also a tip for you....the NHS covers the cost of tetanus and typhoid but only if your gp surgery offer them.....hubby's did but mine didn't as its just a small surgery, and I could only get the tetanus, so I had to go to Boots for the typhoid one and it cost £37! I even asked if I could go along with hubby to his surgery to get mine there for free like him, but as I'm not registered there I couldn't.
Yes, that's right. We had the first then second Hep A jabs when we first went to Turkey. Good point re: other animals......I usually steer clear of them when away, just to be sure, no matter how cute they may or may not seem.
Thank you both for your input, it’s much appreciated. Unfortunately my last relevant vaccinations were 26 years ago and I didn’t want to risk it. The surgery haven’t mentioned paying (although they did say we would have to go privately for Rabies) so hopefully they’re free on the NHS.
With regard to the rabies risk, I will definitely be avoiding all animals and that includes Komodo dragons!! 😀
