Just back from seeing the GP who isn’t the one who sent the text. He says he’ll have to consult someone as the result of the scan and advice are “a bit confusing” He printed the DEXA report off for me but I can’t make head nor tail of it so am attaching it to this message in the hope that someone can!

GP is arranging for me to have blood test for Vitamin D

You might want to retake picture of scores with your name blacked out for privacy…

And scores are okay- although there are a couple that are in the osteopenia range, but only just…

Understanding Bone Density Test Results

1. A T-score of -1.0 or above is normal bone density. Examples are 0.9, 0 and -0.9.

2. A T-score between -1.0 and -2.5 means you have low bone density or osteopenia. ...

3. A T-score of -2.5 or below is a diagnosis of osteoporosis. ...

4. The lower a person's T-score, the lower the bone density.

If your Z score is below -2, your bone density is lower than it should be for someone of your age.

Does a Z score of +5.1 mean that I have been swimming in the fountain of youth!!!

Thanks for that information. I did try to remove photo and retake it keeping my personal details out but couldn’t, I’ll have another go, sorry I’m a bit of a technophobe!

You have to move across the report and link the numbers to the column headed T-score. BMD isn't important to us, Z-score neither.

None of those T-score figures is anywhere NEAR osteoporosis, the worst is -1,2 for your hip and since -1.0 is normal it is hardly worth bothering about. No wonder your GP thinks the combo is "confusing"!!! But you wouldn't catch me even CONSIDERING taking bisphosphonates with those readings!!

The GP sounds clued up - the operator not so much :)

Thanks PMRpro, I said at the scan that I wasn’t keen on taking AA and she said if the tablets had side effects I could take the bisphosphonates in another form! Thank you so much for interpreting the results for me, I’m so relieved. Thank God for this group
