I wrote a long rambling post moaning about having to cancel my holiday in Dubai because I got a urinary infection by only drinking one cup of tea and a gin and tonic. Very stupid, I know how important it is to be hydrated especially when one is old. Then I lost the post so was doubly frustrated
However I have been reading the posts and am now reminded why I feel deadly tired and can’t remember names. This illness takes you by surprise and I tend to forget I am ill. I do mad things like take 52 members of U3A to Windsor on a coach for the day then wonder why I am exhausted.
I am beginning to think I am my own worst enemy and need to act on the advice of sensible others to be gentle with myself. It’s not enough to take the steroids, it needs sensible management of myself.
Take care all of you

So very true. I think I will still travel far and wide when the issues I've got get more manageable as they don't seem to be going away anytime soon. Balance is the pain worth it?
The trouble is jinasc, you know I am 82 next month and I just love my travelling. I pulled the plug reluctantly on South Africa and listened to my friend who said not to go anywhere you can’t drink the water. I know my tiger spotting days are now confined to a night in the Lodge in West Midlands Safari Park and I am conscious himself, although younger, has atrial fibrillation. I lost my two best friends in August and I know flying has its risks, I suppose it’s all about balance 🥂
You know me better than that. I would normally have at least 2-3 litres but getting to the airport was stressful with the packing, my daughter fretting over her cataracts and my autistic grandson deciding to eat the batteries from the remote controls ending up being admitted. Also I have no energy and concluded I had something rare and fatal as I had no energy. I have not bothered to unpack just have a holiday at home and do as little as possible
We all want to be who we were and on a good day go mad and try it then suffer for 3 days after. I do it all the time. Yesterday was written off due a nice day here in the garden and ticking off a few household things. WHY?? Today is ok but I won't learn Ill do too much again soon. I'm 68 and should know better by now 6 years in to this.
Pacing and saying no are the hardest things to do. I have three lovely young granddaughters that are hard to say no to. Now they are 8 and 10 they are able to do more for themselves. But we still cook together, go swimming at the gym and play games and have tea parties.
So on Sundays I take it easy and rest the afternoon and evening. I want them to have fun memories but it does take a toll. Thank goodness my husband has enjoyed them as they rake leaves and do errands with him. Just give yourself breaks and enjoy what you can do.
Thank you. At the moment I don’t want to do anything, having cancelled the holiday I just don’t have the energy/incentive to do much. It’s difficult to know if I body is telling me not to or I am just lazy.
That’s sounded rather rude. You are not ridiculous however probably one of the hardest working people I have ever encountered. This site wouldn’t be so successful without you.
I have an inherent lazy one here, he loves lying around in his pants watching old cowboy films, nevertheless at the suggestion he is needed for the Out of Hours he is out of the front door and off to work so he is not all bad.🥂
Here is another gal who is 82 and I loved to travel. I'm in the states and for the first time in some years, I did fly to Maine for a bit to see old friends. I, like so many others, have had to pick and choose where our stash of energy is to be spent!! Build up a bank account of energy, put bottled water in your suitcase so you'll be ready to go~! I draw the line at cleaning windows and running the vacuum, thank you~!💞✈️
