GP gave me a sensible stamp lol…

Was called into see my GP ‘to review my medication’. My translation of that was ‘why have you not reduced your Prednisolone more?’. I couldn’t see the GP that requested to see me so saw a different one. I was all set for a fight!

That never happened! The GP I saw was lovely, totally understanding and agreed with everything I said. I explained that after being off work for two months due to a flare, during which I increased my Pred, I had still been in a lot of pain. I said I decided to wait until the pain was controlled a bit more and then start reducing, which I was currently doing again. I explained about this forum, my reading up about PMR and what I do in my life to help it and the other conditions I now have. I said I understood the risks but it’s my body and others don’t have to live with the pain, discomfort and terrible fatigue that I have.

I said that as my Pred is not on repeat prescription I am now being questioned when I phone up every few weeks for it. She said I can put it on repeat for you. She said you seem really sensible, you know what you’re doing, so I’m giving you a sensible stamp. I could have hugged her lol!!!

She is certainly a rare breed! For once I came out of the surgery smiling 😀

Well done that woman! She deserves a sensible stamp as well.

She certainly does! Just wish there were more like her around. She actually listened to what I was saying. She said the surgery didn’t normally put Pred on repeat as people have abused it in the past. There is a high incidence of COPD and the like in the area as historically it was a coal mining area.

What an uplift for you! Well done!We should have a 'nominate a GP' system.

She was so lovely and most importantly, prepared to listen to me. I walked out the chemist with 5mg x 100 and 1mg x 100, which are now on repeat. You would have have thought I’d won the lottery lol.

A good GP is a game-changer, isn't it? Actually I have found the younger ones much kinder and willing to listen. And last week I had a call from a rheumy nurse that lasted50 mins!! and she listened properly and answered properly. I wish there were an award that we could nominate these treasures for!

People like that should be the norm but we are all aware that is not the case. Great that you were able to have such a long conversation with the nurse! Usually it’s seems like the quicker they get through the appointments the better it is for them.
