When to take medication?

Hello PMR people, an update on my Pred doses - I went up to 10 for just a week then dropped back to 5 but was in pain again so went up to 7 again, I’m staying with it for now as it’s working and I’m not too bad. Will try to reduce in a few weeks. I am so annoyed because I was doing so well on 5 before the horrendous journey to get home from Rhodes.

Now I have another question - I had been taking my Adcal with my thyroid meds ( thyroxine ) and have discovered I should not have been doing this as they don’t mix well together. I have spoken to the pharmacist and he has said to take pred first thing with food, but thyroxine should be taken on an empty stomach with water so how long do I wait before I take this ? 2/4 hours later ? And then when do I take the adcal ( 2 tabs twice daily ) and I also take lisinopril too ? Does anyone else take all these meds and when please. Are there any I can take together to make it easier ?

Either you take the thyroid meds even before the pred - getting up kind of early - or it is possible to take your thyroid meds at night before bed:

I'm fairly sure there are a few people on the forum who do just that and will come and comment later.

Pred for breakfast, Adcal for lunch and tea/dinner (always better with food)

Don’t know anything about thyroxine so might be talking rubbish - but why can’t you take that first before breakfast on empty stomach. This from patient info leaflet -,

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily on an empty stomach, 30 minutes to 1 hour before breakfast. Take this medication with a full glass of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise.

Then Pred with/after breakfast -and Adcal lunchtime and evening.

Don’t think there’s an issue when you take lisinopril so long as it’s same time every day - so whenever you take it now.

Should I take lisinopril with the pred - I have been doing this for a long time now ?

You can take it any time - whatever suits you and what works.

I have had blood test results and my blood is apparently too chunky ( MCV 105 ) Liver + Kidney ok - got to go back for more tests - plasma C reactive protein 12 which she doesn’t seem worried about and my cholesterol is a bit high. Worried now if something else is going on.

Given normal range is 80-100 I'm not sure I'd get too paranoid about it! This article

medicinenet.com/what_does_i...

suggests being about 125 is where you worry.

Are you on methotrexate?

Thanks PMRpro I worry so much these days, not on methotrexate, she says could be B12 deficient or underlying liver probs - with cholesterol asked if I drank wine and how much ?

All fair enough to wonder - I asked about mTX because another cause is folic acid deficiency. However - I forgot to say, the normal range is the range of readings found in 95% of a very large population of nominally healthy subjects. That means that 5% of that population will lie outside that range, half will be lower and half will be higher. So 2.5% of people have a higher reading that is perfectly normal for them. Maybe you are one ...
