Finished taking pred

Hi all, how is everyone? Been few wks cause got myself locked out somehow. My gp has now diagnosed with fibromyalgia not polymalgia so started meds for fibromyalgia instead. Took my last pred last sat and with new meds and painkillers I think so far I'm feel a lot better not back to normal but better. For 1st few days after last pred I started to feel really anxious mainly about stopping pred, my dizzness has gone, my eyes are not blurry, headaches not as bad, I'm still really tired but now got iron defincity and still needing my nap in afternoon but it only been a wk so still really early. the one thing that I not seen any mention bleeding after stopping pred ,gp thinks it might just be me getting used to not taking pred anymore, got bloods on 11th to check inflammation as well as other things. Anyone had bleeding when off pred or lower dose? I'm post menopause 4 yrs.

How good is that to be off pred although you’ve now got a different diagnosis. I can’t see any of your previous posts so not sure if you’ve had adrenal insufficiency problems. However if you’ve got post menopausal bleeding it must be investigated, if it hasn’t already been done. Your still young so it could be a last errant period but better to be safe than sorry. All the best for your new journey.

I have been diagnosed with both polymyalgia and fibromyalgia. What meds have they given you for fibromyalgia, I didn't know there was any treatment for it.

Fibromyalgia- See this from versusarthritis-

versusarthritis.org/about-a...

Are you also a member of this forum - healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

There is treatment for Fibro. I have both & have trialled Pregabalin & Gabapentin, the two most commonly used drugs. When I had only fibro I also was prescribed amitryptylline, a muscle relaxant used in lots of diseases. Do you not belong to versus arthritis, it’s good. There are lots of forums for fibro, too. I can’t recommend one as I’ve left them all now…had fibro for 15 years & feel I have nothing new to learn!! DL has given you the links…I’m dry surprised your doctor has not discussed treatment, especially when you were first diagnosed!!

Do any of those drugs help with it? I will have a look at that thank you. I was just taking paracetamol and ibuprofen but stopped the ibuprofen when I started steroids for the polymyalgia.

Yes, I think they helps lot of people…if you join a forum, or Google fibromyalgia you will find lots of info, I think. Sadly I couldn’t take either drug but that was due to other medical issues. Not fibro or polymyalgia! Duloxetine, I think, is similar to amitryptylline…old style depressant but now used at a completely different dosage level, as a muscle relaxant. Personally, I’d contact your doctor, as these drugs are only available on prescription! Good luck!

I believe that’s what it’s for, but as I said in my last reply I was unable to take either of the drugs, so I don’t know!! Join the forum, & I’m sure you will find many sufferers who can answer you!! Sorry I can’t help.

ANY post-menopausal bleeding is a red flag and MUST be investigated promptly.

Treatment with corticosteroids CAN cause uterine bleeding - but it is more usually seen at higher doses in the form of heavier periods although even topical use of steroids can make periods heavier.

As for the diagnosis - if this means you are feeling better, that really is good news.

Can’t help with bleeding issue, sorry, but welcome to the world of fibro! Glad you are now diagnosed & things improving…DL gives excellent links above for help with fibro!! Take care, if I could choose just one, I’d choose fibro every time!! S x

Great to be off preds! Can’t wait but not rushing it. I had post menopausal bleeding. I went to gynaecologist who did a smear test and a really good examination. It turned out it was fibroids. It is best to be proactive where blood is concerned. Every good wish.
