Many of you already know my husband has been very frail for some time. Our daughters arrived for their first post-Covid visit ten days ago and that coincided with a sudden nosedive in his already precarious health. The girls happen to be a nurse with Covid ICU experience and a emergency medicine practitioner in A&E. They have nursed him 24/7 since they arrived and yesterday we all said goodbye as he died at 3.15pm on Friday 29th October. He had his family here together for the first time since he became really unwell at the start of 2020. It has been a long hard road but we have emerged from the tunnel - and there was an exquisite sunset yesterday evening which Esca said was her father heading off. Later we raised a glass of prosecco to him.
I will be quiet but not absent - I have read all the posts, just not necessarly replied. I will be back soon.

I had a brandy and raised my glass as the sun went down and said to myself " David was quiet, but he left a legacy which will not be forgotten by the many who have benefited from his research into heart illness". I will miss that gentle unassuming man who loved his bacon sandwich.

So sorry for your loss. It is heartbreaking to lose a loved one, but at least he had his family around him when he passed. My MIL passed last month, on her 93 birthday, and my OH had not been to see her since Christmas because he is shielding and because she was in hospital at the end. I'm sending you and your family all my love.

My husband died 20 years ago from lung cancer. He had been ill for a long time and I thought I was well prepared for his death. I was quite shocked that I still had to go through the grieving process!! Give yourself time and space for this and I add to the many others my very best wishes and thanks for all you hard work. I am not a regular on this site but I have been aware from early on of your continuous selfless dedication to helping others with PMR. I can almost identify with your loss. My own wife died on the 29th of October 2016.

So good to have your daughters there to help you care at the end of your husband's journey. You have helped so many of us with your wise words, you must realize how many supportive thoughts are winging your way from around the world. I'll watch the sunset over the Pacific tonight and add my strengthening thoughts.
As there has to be an end it is good that it happened as it did. My belief (as an atheist) is that our afterlife is in the memories of those we knew. I'm sure that your husband will have a long one. Your support to this community has been remarkable - I trust we can repay you in kind.

At a time like this, there are no adequate words - even though so many of us on this wonderful Forum wish so hard that we could find them.
As one poster said, you are indeed a legend here.
And that’s because you have given so much for so long.
I track my Pred via a spreadsheet, and to one side of the spreadsheet I have a selection of ten or so pieces of your advice with each statement cut and pasted into its own box. That way, I can easily refer to advice of yours covering all aspects of PMR as they apply to me.
It has proved a godsend to me, but it is there only because of the wonderful advice you have laid down over such a long time.
My respect for you has developed over time to where it is now, and I can’t imagine that it could be higher.
All of which makes my loss for adequate words all the harder right now.
My wife died in April 2018. Her illness meant a slow but steady decline and, finally, she took her last, tiny breath in my arms.
So I know something of how it is.
I am so glad that your daughters were able to be there. That is something I am glad about for your husband, for you, and also for them.
I am but one of a huge number whose life has been touched for the good by you. I shall be grateful to you for the rest of my life.
I send to you, and to your daughters, all the feeling that is possible - and all the hope that is possible for you to somehow bear this with the fortitude that I know you have.

My dear PMRpro. I had no idea. I’ve been away from the world mentally for sometime because of my significant others health. So I went on the back burner. Not a good thing to do. I am so sorry PRO and this was probably a Very difficult Christmas for you. I am glad your children were with you. I hope you Can you stay with us you are very important to all of us. And especially when I say we couldn’t have gotten through this without you. I will try to stay on top of health unlocked difficult right now.
