Help please, not for me but for OH. Working away today back tomorrow. He has RA and is on methotrexate 20 mg a week. Dose was due this evening, but he forgot the injection pen. Can he take lunchtime tomorrow when he's due home? Thanks in advance.

When doctors were trying to convince me to try Methotrexate, I was told that if it didn’t suit me, I could stop it straight away without tapering, this suggests that it would be safe to be a day late with the dose. He could ring 111 to be doubly sure.

I came off MXT one week ago and no problems since,it does say in the info' sheet that if you miss a day then don't double up but take the next dose as normal.I too was on the epipen.

Hi

I’ve doubled checked the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) & it says “Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose” which isn’t really helpful, l’d advise ringing your Rheumatology Nurse for advice

I’ve found some more information for you

sps.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploa...

Methotrexate Once-Weekly:

Doses should normally be taken on the same day each week (11,12). If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as it is remembered if this is within two days. For instance if a person normally takes their methotrexate on a Tuesday, they could take it on Wednesday or Thursday (12). However, if the dose is three or more days late then a doctor or the rheumatology clinic should be contacted for advice. A double dose should not be taken to make up for a missed dose (11). It is unlikely that a disease flare-up would occur as a result of a single missed dose (12)

When l was on Tablets l’ve taken them following day if for some reason l’ve felt unwell & thought l was heading for a cold etc so have delayed it by a day.

That's good, thank you for that. He will take it today, so less than 24 hours late.

You could ring his nurse at the hospital that deals with MTX patients, they are very helpful, and give quick answers....
