Turmeric confusion!

I thought I would give turmeric a try as I've read a lot about it helping reduce inflammation. You would think it's easy, just pop along to Holland & Barret or log on to Amazon and order some. If only it was that simple! The levels of Curcumin in the tablets/capsules is apparently the key to success and I've read that you need between 500mg - 1000mg of curcumin per day. A lot of the products out there make it very difficult to find the curcumin levels, although they claim to be high strength. I have found some now that I'm happy to give a try and they claim to have 475mg of curcumin per tablet. Hopefully in a few weeks I will update you with a success story😀

Did you go down the organic route?

I really wanted to but after literally hours of searching I couldn't find any with good levels of curcumin. I've had to compromise to try and stick to the levels of curcumin that are reported to benefit.

I have just started a week ago turmeric capsules called autoimmune with Bioperine (black pepper essence) because I found the same thing. Have high hopes!

I hope so. My husband, the cook, adds it to our food when he can.

I’m jealous, would love my own chef!

The cook in a family is a very powerful person. I sometimes wish I hadn’t relinquished it. The children took a lot of dad’s recipes to Australia. The food is keeping my youngest at home more than anything.

I of course eat more, just to be supportive. 😖

Hi, I use Curcumin 95 by Jarrow. It has 500 mg per capsule. I also cook with just regular turmeric from the spice aisle.

Thanks for the link. Looks like you're outside of the U.K. Can't find that same thing on Amazon.co.uk and they won't ship internationally from .com

None to worry about. I did question this with my Rheumatologist and she saidcwhilst she can’t recommend tumeric she could see no reason why I shouldn’t try it. Good to question it as others can then see they need to check😃

I would consult a naturopath to get advice on what to take.

I tried curcumin (that my nutritionist daughter got for me at the health store where she wirks) the first 6 months, didn’t make much difference. What has made more of a difference is carbs and sugar. Last couple of months I introduced more of these two into my diet over Christmas and while on vacation, and I seemed to have more stiffness/soreness and difficulty tapering down. So I’m back on the low sugar, carb, salt eating plan.

I just put a good quantity of the ordinary powdered turmeric into soups and curries, etc.

Don't know what effect it's having on me, but the inside of my Le Creuset casserole dish is stained indelible yellow.

Don’t know if you are interested but I found Sainsburys sell turmeric root in the veg area. Also at the whole food store in Totnes ( we just happened to call in our our way back from Torquay). So am going to try making a drink with ginger & honey. All the best.

Thanks for that, I’m on my second week of the tumeric capsules. No noticeable affects yet. Good luck with the root option and we can discuss are thoughts at the next group meeting😃
