In this podcast, Sara Booth, University of Cambridge, talks to Professor Sarah Rowlands (Florey Professor of Infection and Immunity,University of Sheffield and Honorary Consultant Physician Nuffield Department of Medicine, Oxford), who specialises in infectious diseases and has a special interest in immunity to viruses, about COVID-19 and immunity/Lupus in one of two podcasts aimed at people living with lupus - part 2 out soon.
Although it was made for and by lupus agencies, this introduction explains how viruses and the immune system work, what immunosuppression is, what Covid-19 is, how it is related to other viruses, the difference between viruses and bacteria in the body, the hope for a vaccine and what the dreaded "herd immunity" means. It isn't specifically for any one illness.
There is another installment to come.

Very informative and easy to understand. A lingering question for me is, if the people who get very ill with Covid 19 and have the severe inflammatory response in their lungs, wouldn’t a strong anti-inflammatory, like prednisone, work? I know they are exploring the use of Actemra in this regard, to address the cytokine storm.
'These are Lopinavir-Ritonavir, normally used to treat HIV, and the steroid dexamethasone, which is used in a wide range of conditions to reduce inflammation. '
