Happy New Year, and thanks!

Sorry I’m late, retired to bed at 9.30pm with very bad sciatica, and the going is slow this morning. Thanks to all for your help over the first two months of my PMR. My first taper 16mg to 15mg started two days ago, yippee, on a downward trend! Here’s a sunny photo from Christmas Day’s walk to cheer...wishing you all a great 2020 and thanks to our great moderators, too! S x

Hoping a sunshine holiday will cure the sciatica! Off end next week, but if not then I will try acupuncture. I’m doing all the stretching exercises and physio, but it is a lousy pain! Thanks, S x

It’s 10 minutes from where we live! But the water is rainfall, not normal. We have lakes but at the moment it looks more like the Lake District! S x

And to you, you’ve been through it lately I can see...and I’ve only been on here two months! S x

Wow, you are a braver girl than me , first taper during Christmas and before a holiday .

Take it easy and have a lovely holiday and Healthy New Year , hugs xxx

Yeah, I know. But I wanted to try it before my monthly doctor’s appointment tomorrow evening (to discuss the next month’s dosage). BUT...a big but, had a stiff neck this morning. It could have been the dreadful night of sciatica, though, and it was fine after soak in bath, but if stiff tomorrow morning then it’s back to 16 mg until after holiday! Thanks and hope you have a better year, S xx

Yes , it was worth trying it just to see if it was possible.

At least you know now and can go back to the previous dose while you are busy on holiday and you are trying to get that Sciatica under control.

It's that added Pain from something else that's got in your way .

Here's hoping all your hard work will mean you can enjoy a good holiday , you and Mr. Claus definitely deserve a treat .

Big hugs xxx

Thanks so much. I wondered if you can only get away with tapering if the rest of your medical issues are under good control! Guess I don’t have to ask now! I have enjoyed good summers with FM, I find FM quite weather related, so guess I will be a ‘fair weather’ taperer, if that word exists! Onwards! Thanks a lot and big hugs back to you, too, S xxx

How do you reduce? From every day one dose to every day the new dose from one day to the next?

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply to PMRpro

Um...first time I’ve reduced at all...I was on 16mg four days ago, the next day I reduced to 15mg and for the past three days I’ve taken 15mg...didn’t realise there could be another way, sorry if I’m being thick here. Should I be reducing just one or two days a week, perhaps? I just assumed it was a complete reduction. I take my Pred at 3am with a plain biscuit. Any help and advice gratefully received, please? S xx

Read both of them...i’m being too impatient/impulsive/stupid, I realise now! Bad idea to taper just before a busy week & a long haul flight, & at New Year and, and, and! May not be sciatica (though I’ve had it before, so think it is)...time to rein it all back a bit. I’m used to asthma steroid dosages, where I would go 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 off.. one day after the other, then finish within a week. Very helpful, thanks so much, S xx

Sounds familiar! I’m learning to distinguish the pains..between fibromyalgia, Polymyalgia, osteoarthritis, haemangioma in lower spine, sciatica and a partridge in a pear tree! It’s got plenty of choice! Hope your muscle strains ease very soon! S xx

That's to much

Dont know how you manage having one is bad enough without all the rest .

It’s a bit overwhelming while the PMR and diabetes diagnoses are so new to me, but I find a sense of humour is the way forward...and the help I see here on this Forum, and there are plenty worse off than I am. Thanks S x
